I was told by Apple that if you want to keep your phone you have to pay it off before picking up the X in store. Seams odd since they are separate loans. Any experiences here?

I didn’t have to pay to pick up my wife’s iPhone 8 Plus. Was suppose to turn the phone in by october 14th. Haven’t paid it off. My daughter is using it.

Yeah, I think I got the newbie from the Middle East on the phone. A sure sign as a result of my questions are “let me check” and put me on hold for 15 minutes. Feeling like Apple support is run by Dell.

A different case as mine is being delivered but I got an e-mail from Citizens One saying that if I don't turn in the phone within 14 days the payments will just continue being deducted on top of the payments for the new phone.

Yes, I actually get that. But a requirement to pay off the loan before I can pick up my x without trading in my 7 seems odd. If I opted for home delivery what would they do?

I'm keeping the 7+ I bought last year on IUP, and passing it down to my wife. I ordered a new iPhone X for me, also on IUP. I assumed I'd keep paying the old Citizen's One bill on the 7+, so it's good to get that confirmation.

I plan to sell my wife's current 6s+ on eBay, and apply the proceeds to the Citizen's One balance on the 7+. Anyone know how to make extra payments or payoff a Citizen's One IUP balance early?

I am going to call Apple again today and ask again. Sometimes you get a different rep and you get a different answer, I am also going to call Citizens and ask about paying the loan off. I went to the website and their wasn't a facility to make a lump payoff.

I also think it doesn't make sense that you can't just keep making payments. What's the difference? i just don't want any issues on Friday for in store pick-up. As I said, if I opted for hope delivery, I would have the X and 14 days to return the 7 or "my loan would be reinstated".

Ok, spoke to Apple a few minutes ago and spoke with someone who sounded to be very competent. She said I don't have to do anything in terms of paying off the loan. The phone is mine to keep. She went on to say that I actually have 14 days to turn it in if I wanted to and that I am not required to turn it in on Friday (even if I wanted to). This all makes sense because what if I wanted to return the X during my return period and stay with my 7?

I told her about my prior phone call and she laughed and said that the person I spoke to clearly gave me bad advice.

Can you please confirm that you asked for store pickup? The reason I say that is because my iPhone 8 pickup letter says that if I do not bring my old phone upon upgrade, payments from the old loan will continue. So essentially, just don’t turn it in but you do not have 14 days since you are doing pickup.

Confirmed, I am doing store pickup and I made the rep fully aware of this. She confirmed keeping my phone will not be an issue and that I could just keep the payments going or call Citizens One to pay it off.

I obsessively repeated that I did not want any issues picking up my X. I feel good to go.

Okay thanks. I have a 7 that I am thinking about selling myself instead of turning in.
Same here. I already have it listed on Swappa, eBay and Craig's List. I have gotten legitimate offers of $540 and $525 but have turned them down. Trying to time it to the end of the week as I need my phone.

OP, thanks for getting the clarification for us. This confirms exactly what Apple told me when I asked them about this by online chat a couple of weeks ago. Good deal.

Thanks for your work here as I’m in the same boat - I figured I’d forgo the convenience of trade in by selling then pay off. Between the iPhone X initial payment, activation fee, higher overall payments, taxes, case, an extra 1-2 payments on the 7 it just seems like I should try to squeeze as much as I can out of this phone this time around.

Not to change the direction of the thread too much but out of curiosity for my own negotiating, what have you listed for and what would you accept? I have a 7 Plus 128GB matte black in great condition minus a couple scuffs in the corners.

I was thinking $615 seemed like a sweet spot - it would pay off the balance of my 7+ and cover X taxes, the activation fee, and the two extra payments on my 7 Plus. Not sure if that is dreaming on resale value though. Anything less than 500 I don’t think would be worth the hassle.

Sorry for rambling, just seems like we are in a similar boat.

The extra 2 payments sure make a difference. Worst case, I will cancel AppleCare when I sell since I never used it and possibly get about $45 or so back from apple.

I know! I normally don’t think too much about this stuff but this one has really added up fast. Excited for the X regardless!

Hey Jerry, no problem. Mine actually sold yesterday via Swappa. It sold for $550. Swappa keeps $20 and Paypal keeps $15 (which pisses me off!). I advertised mine a having one year of Apple Care+ left so I am not sure if this was a selling point. I did not realize I could cancel Apple Care and lower the payoff. I do plan to pay off Citizens One today, but I don't think I really have to, but I will. So for me, I net $515 - $363 = $152. Yes, it helps offset the cost of the X, the wireless chargers and the new cases. I just couldn't give it back to Apple for $363 purely for convenience. I am also proud of the condition I keep my phones in and like to see them go to a worthy buyer. Hopefully will sell here someday once I am a member for >6 months. Good luck, check out Swappa for the value of your Plus.

I called Citizens One earlier today to pay off my balance. He asked my if I wanted to charge the balance to my card and then said once it is paid off Apple will be notified that my phone is no longer part of the program and it will be processed. This all makes sense, but I opted to wait until I have the X in hand for fear of messing up my X order. I am sure I am overthinking it, but I don't want some system update messing with my X and telling it I am not part of IUP (which I am for the X). Just keeping folks posted.
