Trust me it is possible, where I work I drive a work truck throughout the day and have some not so desirable people riding in the back and at times I know I have seen them eyeballing my pass code entry so I switch pass code quite often and have actually forgot it a few times but luckily I alternate between the same passwords and codes so I always figure it out.
Now know that I'm not taking up for this guy and YES this is a very very fishy situation like I said its possible it's just their wording is suspicious because trust me if I got locked out of my phone I would be at the apple store in a second but luckily I'm buying more and more NEW devices and it's a good thing because the last ipad and iPhone i purchased both had activation lock but thank goodness they were both legitimate and the actual owners removed them from iCloud for me.

In fairness I agree that it IS possible. The problem is, in those instances where it is, there is no way to convince people who really know the seriousness of the Apple theft problem that it's NOT a scam, so they'd be MUCH better off just contacting Apple directly.

I truly hope the OP was legit, but the odds are that he/she bought a phone (or stole one), that was password locked and is trying to fix it by claiming they "forgot" the password. Maybe it's wrong. Maybe everything on the internet is true! It could happen... And I could be Bob Hope. You never know, which is why on the internet you have to go with what is most likely the truth, and the sad reality is it's most likely stolen.

It is what it is

Hey what kind of human beings are you!

You guys wanna make me a thief only because I forgot my password?

Blah! Such a shameless!

I'm rather confused. First you say you purchased the iPhone used (makes me suspect that the previous owner's Apple ID password needs to be entered), then you say it's your password that you forgot.

Again, if its your password that you forgot, then you'll have to answer your security questions to reset the password through the Apple self serve website, or contact the security support team.

It's important to note that when you change your Apple ID, you must go into settings and set the new ID up for everything from iCloud to FaceTime. Anything that uses your Apple ID.

What confused you? He said I'm a thief, otherwise you would have a receipt. I replied that I have bought it used so I have nothing to improve it's mine.

OP stop posting rants against people, no one is acusing you we already gave you the iforgot link... read it and follow the instructions if you still can't even regain control of your accoung then the chances of us believing you stole might begin to level up a bit.

Again, in fairness, I'm pretty sure I DID accuse him/her, and I won't apologize for that because odds are overwhelmingly in my favor that I'm RIGHT.

It's possible I'm wrong. But let's think about this for a minute... yeah... not very likely...

Look, I get that people forget things, and that sometimes people even forget the things to help them not forget OTHER things. But sometimes you just have to call a spade a spade and not worry about the .00001% chance that it's not what everyone else is at least THINKING it is.

So rant all you want. I hope, HOPE I'm wrong, even though I'm probably not.

If the phone isn't stolen, Apple can assist.

And PS, I realize the issue is supposedly "solved", but I have a hunch that is likely only because of the response that was received and not because it actually was... Again, I hope I'm wrong, but these days the simplest explanation is usually the correct one (hasn't it always been???)

i feel this is going to become a big trend because these locked/lost p.w/stolen phones are selling for so cheap on ebay that people are buying them and then coming here and on to various other forums to figure out a way to unlock and use them. Just look at all the current and SOLD listings on ebay... these will go as cheap as $300 bucks for mint brand new looking 5s with activation lock.

I am sure A LOT of people go hmmmm less than half the price for a new model if I can just get passed the activation I have SCORED.

Another thing I read about these activation locked phones is, people buy them then zap them (not sure how) to make them not even turn on, walk into apple store and play dumb... does not power on and get a working unit and then brag about how they SCORED a 5s for a steal.

You are EXACTLY right. People's greed, and their inability to afford a product they desperately want, will lead them to trying to cheat the system. This hold's true for almost everything I'm afraid.

Again, kudos to Apple for at least trying to make it slightly harder to do.

Maybe it'll stop a handful of people from being robbed. And if you have ever read those threads it messes the victims up more than just financially...

If you are forgetful: get an encrypted password keeper app, or write it down somewhere safe... It's really not that difficult, even if some people will try to make you believe they just can't for the life of them do it. Why they have a smartphone with that limited base of knowledge is beyond me, but here we are.

Hello folks,

I've forgot Find My iPhone password, and because of that I couldn't restore the iPhone unless I enter the password, or put the iPhone in DFU Mode so you can restore it,
I've done that, put it in DFU mode, restored it!
But after the device has been restored :( I can't even use it!
It says that this iPhone is currently linked to an Apple ID. Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up on this iPhone. = Which means it requires the password :/

It's really a bad situation, and I'm afraid of loosing my device
How could I solve it?!

I'd be very pleased of any of you could solve my problem,
Thanks

2 options:

1 - You can reset your password here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5787
2 - You can take it to Apple and see if they can do anything.

But without that password, you're basically out of luck. Your phone is a paperweight. Sorry man.
