Curved OLED touch screen? That mean's it's not traditional round like this mock-up. I'll most likely be passing.

Do you really see non-dorks having a phone conversation w/ the watch? I can see using the watch to relay Caller ID to see if you want to take the call or send to VM or respond w/ cookie cutter SMS, but who is going to go all Dick Tracy and talk to their watch? It's more ridiculous than people who use BT headsets and look like they are talking to themselves.

Phone conversation? Maybe, maybe not. But what about the new voice iMessage in iOS8? THAT I can see the iWatch used for. Raise watch, do a quick iMessage, continue walking feeling like Dick Tracy

Hang on HANG ON, how can it have a curved display?? when rumors the other day were saying that Apple have gone for the traditional round faced watch. Is it a round faced watch with a dome of curved glass for the screen??

I know they are RUMORS, but they are not even consistent

i hope it will be have a clean design, no lightning or 3.5jack connector. At this point Moto 360 got it right. I dont want and i suppose no one wants a whole in their watch

I think you are justified. As the article notes Apple is apparently cranking up mass production to levels well beyond what the entire industry has put out in a year. That is a big gamble if you ask me. I just don't see a heated demand for an iWatch unless it does far more than is being suggested. Watches in general don't sell that well.

The idea that it runs iOS 8 gives me hope though. I just don't know about how much tech can be stuffed in such a watch. It would be neat if it had full cell phone capabilities all on its own. If not that WiFi capabilities.

I hope Apple comes up with a name other than iWatch. Aside from being worn on the arm (a good place for a small, wearable display) and displaying time and date information, it won't have much in common with conventional watches. The key to its success will be the extent to which it can measure health-related data on its own without requiring regulatory approval. In the USA, that means FDA 510(k) pre-market clearance. It also could accept and display information provided by other wearable devices. It'll also be interesting to see how the "iWatch" fits into Apple's HealthKit ecosystem.

As for non health-related functions, I've heard people say that they're not needed because they always have an iPhone with them. But there are situations where that's not practical. Under those conditions, it might be very helpful to have a wearable device that provides information about things that need attention (think mini Notification Center).

Can Apple pull this off? I don't know for sure, but it's going to be fun to follow.

I agree. But why would Apple implement a feature in Yosemite to see when you recieve a phone call and to even answer it? I mean, it seemed like a feature that I thought would be the most promising for an iWatch, not on OS X. Imagine working on your computer, then why would you still be wearing an iWatch? The point I'm trying to make is that by focusing on integration between OS X and iOS, it looks like they're taking away some features I would deserve for their watch..

This makes no sense at all. Should they remove iMessage and the ability to display the time on OS X? These also "take features away" from a watch. Except they don't. Sure if you're glued to a Mac, you might not need a watch as much, but most people aren't at their Macs 24/7.

That's a stretch. People wear glasses because they have trouble seeing. They don't need a watch to tell time. Most people I've met who wear watches do so as a fashion accessory. Sure, sunglasses have become fashionable, as well, but they still help people see (in bright sunlight.) Just like you can get fashionable prescription glasses.

Nobody needs to wear a watch. They wear one because they want to, and there's a definite market in that.

Then again, you went ahead and admitted that you can use your phone or ask somebody for the time, so I'm not entirely certain what point you're trying to make.

Ok maybe it is a bit of a stretch and i probably should of explained what i meant. Watches are becoming a thing of the past, at least here in the UK and at my university i don't see many people wearing watches, they are using their phones to tell the time. So watches are fading out, yes some people do still use them and that tends to be the older generation.

What i also meant was that Apple needs to bring some good functionality to the iWatch, they need to make people want to wear it. Wearing something is a lot different from a phone or an iPad that you carry around, it needs to be fashionable and there needs to be a reason why people would want to wear it. Don't get me wrong i'm not having a go at Apple, i'm just saying my opinion on what the iWatch needs to be. I think if any company has a shot at making a good smart watch or wearable device, i think its Apple. I'm just questioning what they will put into it and what the device itself will do

I still don't understand this argument about the name iWatch. The same could be applied to the iPhone, but I think iPhone is a great name.

"Aside from being kept in the pocket (a good place for a small, touchscreen computer) and making phone calls, it won't have much in common with conventional phones."

That statement was especially true right when the iPhone came out. I think iWatch is a great name despite it not having much in common with conventional watches.

JMO, but I wouldn't buy an iWatch if it was more than $100. You need an iPhone to work with it, and I would rather spend the extra time to pull my phone out of my pocket.

iOS on your wrist, and it will depend on an iPhone for full functionality. A semi-stand alone device?

I have been pretty excited about an iWatch, especially after all these rumors pointing towards a fall release. However, depending on the design of it, I may just pass on purchasing it. Although if Apple is working with Nike on the design, it definitely will pique my interest.

Regardless, I'm still excited to see what the iPhone 6 and the iWatch brings us.

Stop talking about the iWatch, since they didn't talk nothing about SDKs from the iOS8 to Wearables such as an iWatch on the WWDC I truly do not believe they'd be interested in releasing at least this year the iWatch.
What they did talk however was about the HomeKit SDK, which does not fall on the same category but could indeed follow.

I'm wondering if the iWatch is only going to be aimed at people who work out at the gym, counting steps taken, miles run and so on, or is this going to be product that's aimed at everyone with much more functionality

Personally i do not go to the gym, BUT i do like to keep track of steps taken and calories i eat. I currently use the Steps+ App in the App store. How would an iWatch be better than the app i'm currently using

I think if Apple are doing an iWatch, they need to make it something we will WANT to wear not something we "have to wear" I think Tim Cook got it exactly right when he said that people "wear glasses because they have too not because they want too" when he was asked about Google Glass. And i think the same could be said for a watch, most people wear them because they HAVE to in order to be able to tell the time, but how many young people wear watches? as a rule they DON'T, i know i don't because i have an iPhone that tells me the time. and the same goes for my friends and most people i know at University.

This is Apple. It'll be aimed at everyone. The dad, the mom, the teen, the college student, the grandma, the 5 year old, the gym nut, the channel surfer, the business man, the artist, etc etc.

I hope the price reflects that ;) the most concerning report i read was that the iWatch "will come in multiple price points, up to several THOUSAND DOLLAR'S"

That mockup looks like **** and doesn't even have a curved display (at least in the way I think of a curved display). It looks nothing like anything Apple would release. Whoever keeps posting it at MacRumors has zero sense of style or modern design -- and, most of all, zero sense of Apple's aesthetic.

I'm going to assume the band will be some type of rubber or cotton-threaded style and not stainless steel.

I'm also going to assume the watch face will look like a regular watch with a digital screen.

I wouldn't buy it if the watch comes in sizes like S, M, L, XL - as I can't adjust the band to my wrist. I don't want anything that snaps in place either.

Just my 0.02

So its a fitness/health band that tells time? Or is it a fitness band, phone and ipod rolled into one? I know we are just guessing but I am really eager to see this mythical device! :apple:

Of course it is not a phone - probably not able to play music either. You think they would kill their iPod and iPhone brands?...

This is the closest image I have seen to what I think the iWatch will look like... (in terms of the overall look, not the screen display).

watch concept

Yes, it's an Android watch concept, but it fits with some of the Apple patents that have been revealed, about the shape an design of the strap.

That picture is such a ridiculous concept and it's ugly. I wish macrumors would never use it again. It's an abomination. Apple probably looks at this site and laughs...

Lots of people read it mainly for the entertainment value.
