after experiencing the common difficulties with converting a domain created in the previous iweb to the current iweb (crashing, loss of photos, loss of whole site, iweb 08), it now seems to be working with stability although it has renamed one of the pages causing me problems with existing links in other sites to that page.

but there are some problems:

1. photos imported into the website are darker with less deep colours than the original. deselecting optimise on import appears to lessen the problem.

2. when one clicks on a photograph on a website there is an option to download. this works fine on my website hosted on .mac but on my website hosted elsewhere pressing download merely gives a pages with the photograph on it. this doesn't amount to a download and i can't see a way to remove the download link.

3. web gallery. when i go to view web galleries (i've tried the ones forum members have posted) skimming does not work until you have been into the album once.

4. the apple site says about web gallery "your photos download in large format, suitable for printing at up to 40 cm by 50 cm (16 inches by 20 inches). i put up a 2.6 MB JPEG photo (3456 × 2304). This downloads as 616KB. that isn't enough information to print at normal mini lab resolutions at the size mentioned. i thought it might be a good way to distribute photos amongst my family for them to print rather than my giving them CDs (especially since some of my family are abroad), but the downloads are tiny.

and to add to my above list of iweb and web gallery problems, photos cannot be added to my web gallery by others using the upload button. it says its uploading the photos but the they don't appear. however, it does work if one emails the photo to the gallery. and also with this method (unlike my publishing photos to the gallery) the photo is there in its original resolution.
