I'm looking for a way to embed a page counter in iWeb like Google Analytics.

Since iWeb doesn't allow you to edit the HTML directly, I don't think it's possible. I would have to publish to a folder each time and edit the code by hand. Right?

It's nothing fancy...

That's the problem, it's too simple. For starters, it counts each page refresh as a hit, and isn't hidden.

Thanks for the screenshot, though. ;)

RE: How to embed a counter into iweb

If you have a hit counter that you like and you want to embed it, simply go to INSERT and then click on HTML Snippet.

You should be able to place your HTML code right in the box meant for the it.

Resize as needed and then hit APPLY. You should be good to go!

Let us know if this trick did it for you.

And in addition, inserting a counter through the program option only works if you are publishing to MobileMe. That is one of three things (along with built in RSS feeds and something else I can't recall at the moment) that only work if the site is hosted on MobileMe.

That being said, it seems that a lot people are using the free StatCounter with iWeb quite easily and it appears to be a counter with a LOT of cool info available beyond the straight counter function (and can be hidden as well). Instructions for automatically adding it to iWeb can be found at the iWeb FAQ page which has a lot of other useful info too.
