Hello you computer / mac veterans !!
I am new to mac and iweb, and I am wondering if it is possible to "publish" my iweb pages to a personal site OTHER than .mac . Is this possible and how? I find that the idisk is too little, even at 4GB, for too much $$$; but I like the designs of iweb and would like to transfer or 'drop' my iweb pages to a new domain name. Thanks for your insight !!
cheers, xandra10

Just 'publish to a folder' then upload the folder where you wish. Its simple! :D

EDIT: Then use something like Transmit to upload.

Well i do not have iWeb installed, but it should ask you were to save the website. If it doest ask, then check the Sites folder in your personal home account (in your mac).

The "Publish to Folder" is in the File Menu.

When you 'Publish to Folder' in iWeb it will save to the user/sites folder by default. You can change this if you wish, but there's no real reason to. Everything is kept on your local machine.

ok, still more questions !!

1) now if I 'publish to folder', can I delete the page/site from iweb and still have it be in the folder? or will deleting it from iweb, delete it everywhere..

2) if it is in my sites folder on my hard drive, is it necessary to keep it in the site folder on the idisk, taking up room on the idisk...

3) if I choose to leave it on the idisk folder, do the folders update automatically when I do a 'new' publish to folder..

THANKS MUCH !! cheers

Xandra,

Deleting it from iWeb will make it difficult to rework the site in the future. But this won't delete the pages you have created unless you delete pages but not the site, then a publish would remove content in the folder.

If you want people to see the site then you will need to publish it somewhere but always keep a backup if you need to keep it static.

Finally if you are publishing to .mac then iWeb automatically does the updates you need and uploads the changes to your iDisk This negates the need to do publish to folder. Forgive me if I misunderstand the question.

iweb

depending on where you are hosting your site, I think (not sure) but I think that iweb uses some funky code that all the features won't work on anything but .mac... kind of reminds me of MS Frontpage... lol.... but on .mac it makes it very simple to publish a page without having to be a HTML/PHP guru... I find I use php scripts from hotscripts.com or use a CMS system like Wordpress or Drupal... but using iWeb is a good way to get your feet wet anyway

Hey Guys,
Xandra isn't the only one with questions! I have one.

How do I delete the hyperlinks at the top of the page? If you don't understand, go to mattslee.tk (don't know how long it will be available) and have a look at the long list of pages! It takes up the whole top half of the screen. How do I delete it? You should play the game at my website, it's awesome, but beside the point.

ADDITION
Quick question, where does iWeb SAVE the website, I know how to publish looking above, but I press  S and it just... saves. If I want to put this website on another computer if mine crashes, is that it for my website? Bye Bye?
