iWeb seems to be just perfect for the type of blog I want to set up. Except that I want it on my own domain and the ability for people to post comments is key. Is there a workaround that will allow this without having a .Mac account?

To my knowledge, no. An alternative to iWeb might be Sandvox. Sandvox is similar to iWeb and has a few added features like the ability to add in your own html. I am pretty sure, at least it appears from looking at other peoples sites, that it supports commenting but I would send them an email asking. I have used the beta version of Sandvox, back when they first started, and it seemed pretty good.

Found this link about using iWeb without a .mac account, but it seems to suggest blogs don't work to well.
