I installed a trial of iWork 09 yesterday to get a feel for it, liked it so went out today and purchased the box from my local Apple Store.

I know about the whole not needing a serial number now however it is asking me for one since the install on all three applications.

I removed the trial and all evidence of it and restarted my macbook before installing the box.

Any ideas?

Register the Serial number of the iWorks you bought from the Apple Store. If you have problems, call Apple with the serial number, they'll work things out. Or go to the APple Store you got the product?

i think this is the file that is causing the problem - com.apple.iWork09.Installer.plist
it is in library->preferences

i think you will have to delete these files... and reinstall from your new retail disc

<bootVolume>:Applications: iWork '09

<bootVolume>:library: preferences: com.apple.iWork09.Installer.plist
<bootVolume>:library: preferences: com.apple.iWork09.plist

<bootVolume>:Users:<userAccount>:Library:preferences:com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
<bootVolume>:Users:<userAccount>:Library:preferences:com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
<bootVolume>:Users:<userAccount>:Library:preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist

iWorks purchased from an Apple store or any brick/mortar store doesn't have a serial number.

Do what the above posted stated (you basically got to clear any existence of the trial version).

I've followed those steps but still having no luck, any ideas?

Ok, you have deleted every one of these files (you are sure)?
You emptied the trash?
You restarted the computer?
You installed from a retail boxed DVD?

Everyone of those files was gone, I emptied the trash and then restarted. I installed from the DVD that came in the box.

Still no luck.

What computer are you using?
Are you using Snow Leopard?
Give us as much info as you can

Try searching for the iWork files in spotlight and see what you find

Does iWOrk come with 90 days of phone support?

If so, you could try to call Apple, surely they might have seen this issue before.

13inch macbook
Snow Leopard

I've searched and nothing comes up

Since you bought it at the Apple Store, i would make an appointment at the Genius Bar and have them resolve it now

I think you have done about all you can do :(

Someone else may have a magic bullet for you on the Forum here, but I am at a dead end

Might wanna try Appzapper to get rid of your original install completely.
