I upgraded my MacBook Air to Yosemite and also the iWork apps on that machine. Because I also have a iMac with Mavericks I didn't switch on iCloud drive.

After editing a spreadsheet on my Air I was not able to save it to iCloud. I got an error message that iCloud was not activated. So I saved the file to Dropbox and tried to open it on my iMac, this time I got an error message that I needed a newer version of Numbers and OSX!

So this lead me to the conclusion that the new version of iWorks is not compatible with the old 3.2 version I have on my iMac. The Appstore doesn't offer me an upgrade for this version of iWorks on the iMac.

The only solution other than upgrading to Yosemite on my iMac was to downgrade iWorks on the Yosemite MacBook with help of Time Machine. Now I sync through Dropbox.

Don't upgrade iWorks together with Yosemite if you are also using iWork files from an older iWorks version.
