not to mention office 08 only costs $30. :D

that settled my mind once and for all. more compatibility with my non mac using peers, doesn't tick off professors, no funky changes from converting formats... and cheaper.

$30? link? where? because i decided i should probably try both iwork and office on my mac and see if i need them. only problem was money and the office mac costs like 130 at the apple store.

I'm in the same predicament of deciding if I should go with Office or iWork.

Well, I'll see the trials and whatever fits my style and needs most is what I will go to.

MacWorld had a pretty good article in one of their issues about Office and iWork and compared them quite well with each other.

Office 08

I prefer Office '08. First off I like to switch my documents with other people for proofreading purposes and I also work in the campus computer lab and I HAVE to work on a windows PC and iwork doesn't really do well trying to get put into windows programs. Its also alot better interface. When I tried to use iWorks I couldn't get use to it. I however worked with iWork '06 so idk if they fixed the issues. If you are just gonna work on your mac iWorks if probably a good choice if your preference is that but if you are going to go between Mac and Windows Office is your best bet

i'm getting both. :D of course my college has a discount where for $150 you get 3 years of applecare plus office, and it's $40 for iwork, so that's nice.

I have Office 2008 and iWork '08. But after testing iWork a few months ago I switched back MS Office. Office has more features and is definitely more compatible with the PC version of Office. I am a student, too. And when you have to work together with other people who use MS Office, like I often have to, it's easier to exchange files back and forth. (no import/export) This holds true especially when you're working on a presentation or with excel files. Ever tried to export a Numbers file to Excel? Horrible result.
Well said.

If you need 100% compatibility, then get VMware, install Windows XP and Office 2003 or 2007.

On the Mac side use iWork.

If you need close to 100% compatibility, then get Office 2004 or 2008, and skip iWork.

I bought iWork '08 when I purchased our 2 Mac earlier this year. Then I was able to get a copy of Office 08 through work. I have to admit, after using Windows Office 97 - 2007, I do like Office 08 more than iWork.

My family likes iWork more, because it's fast and easy to use. But for work, it's definitely Office...

You have to go to your college bookstore in person to get the price. It isn't kn the web and it isn't advertised.

Last year I bought Office 2004 mac and Office 2007 Windows for $30 each, and
my friend's have already bought office 08 there for $30 as well.

Tried both iWork and Office 2008--Office hands down; been using it on Windows machines for years; it's got all the features I need in a program I'm used to seeing. iWork I feel is too weak for power users and there is too much holding-hands going on.

Of all things Microsoft, Office cannot be beaten.
