This is a great idea as long as they can get a someone Kirk like. Phasers on stunn lets go in, ill get the babe later;) Wish they would have done this a long time ago. Getting a actor to make us think Kirk will be the hard part. Id much rather have Kirk in my corner then some baldy
I totally agree with this comment TOS Star Trek is my first love of science fiction, gees I even had the shirt and phaser as a kid, bring back a young Kirk, he always sounded impulsive, rebellious and impetuous as a youngster like all youngsters should at some time in their lives.

To revive the franchise something new and fresh is needed. We've done the backwards look with Enterprise and it just didn't work out. Leave the franchise for a whilst and come back to it with something more original than resurrecting old characters. As much as I love Kirk and co, I'm just not bothered about prequals. And with Ben Afleck as Kirk apparantly....

Oh please no. If this is true it's going to be worse than I ever could have imagined! :( Poor Star Trek, it's lost its way.

I am also verrry frightened by this casting choice. But it does raise a very interesting area of discussion. If they make the decision to do the story of Kirk and Spocks youth who should they cast for the roles?

Trek has been pants for a while. I used to love the original series. All that camping it up in bright colours and every female in the universe falling in love with Kirk, but Picard and crew were far too up their own backsides for my liking, and all that "we replicated their DNA and all is well" rubbish on Voyager got so repetitive it went out the other side of dull and actually became anti-interesting.

Give it up. There are plenty of sci-fi ideas waiting to be brought to the screen. The current Trek producers are just playing with themselves in someone else's universe.

I gave up on Trek after Gene Roddenberry died. I thought the original series, TNG, and DS9 were all brilliant, and after that... :( Voyager was a catastrophe.

I agree with those who have said that if this franchise is going to come back, it needs to move forward, not back. Recapturing the magic of Kirk et all isn't going to happen. If they can't come up with some new characters and new ideas, they shouldn't even bother.

If you ask me...

...this guy should be captain.

I'm with DHM. I grew up with the original Trek, and if there's any version of the franchise worth reviving -- albeit with some updating -- it's that one.

The problem with the others is that they were too talky. When TNG came out, there were even jokes about it. "Who'd win in a fight between Kirk and Picard?" people would ask. (Keep in mind those were the only two captains around at the time.) The consensus was that Picard would offer his hand and say, "Let's be reasonable about this"...and Kirk would kick his ***.

As long as they make the new movie in the mold of the early "Star Trek" films, particularly the even-numbered ones, I've got no problem with it.

LOL. Like I said phasers on stun,:D What pisses me off to no end about all these new treks are how perfect man is, everyone has perfect ethics, morals and blah blah blah. In real life nothing could be further from the truth. Bottom line is if there is a great skirt floating around Kirk would find it:D The squeeky clean new shows made me want to puke. I also grew up on the Original and the original was a action series and the humans had flaws not the god like ethics of TNG.

Enterprise could have been good if they wanted it to be. Unfortunately, they decided instead to be lazy and kitschy. They also screwed with the continuity and the "look" of the universe. NX-01 -> NCC-1701? What the hell they were smoking, we may never know.

Trek has life in it, but it's going to have to evolve, a la Battlestar Galacica. Trek has devolved, into plot re-hashes and insider-joke nudges.

I'll be happy to return to Star Trek as soon as they make something worth watching.

On Topic: I read somewhere that Abrams *is* going to do Star Trek 11, but that the Dawson's Trek storyline was pure BS. We can only hope.

IMO for what it's worth is if someone decides to revive the Trek world then yes start off with TOS (that's The Original Series). It does not have to be Kirk, Spock, Bones and the rest of the peanuts gang. It could and should be with a different crew.

My pick for starting off with a new show/movie would be based on a book titled First Frontier. It's got Klingons, Romulans, Time Travel and Dinosaurs. Or something in the neighborhood.

Did you ever watch DS9? Definitely the darkest ST and, IMO, it had some of the best writing too (both in terms of characters and story lines).

Star Trek: "He's Dead Jim."

Paramount really needs to think of some other way to make money. And, in the case of Star Trek, be prepared to spend a *lot* of money to ressurect the franchise. The writing since TNG has become steadily worse - latter-day episodes of Voyager and Enterprise were unwatchable to the point of laughter. And the last two movies - wow, terrible is a nice description.

Yeah, I don't have cable so I don't know what he's done to revitalize SG-1, but I'm eager to see him in other roles.

The story isn't set yet. We may not see Star Trek: The Wonder Years.
What are some other ones we haven't tried yet?
The S.T.
One Trek Hill
Star Trek: Freaks & Geeks
Star Date 90210
Degrassi: The Next Generation
No... wait... that last one is real.

Another one:

Enterprise was the best Star Trek series, imo. Ever other series was camp and tongue in cheek... watching Voyager (the same goes for TNG and DSN) again, I suddenly realise how naff the plots were. Enterprise managed to actually have realism (a first for Star Trek, :/) some of the time, and gave us more of an idea of how humans would fare if they suddenly found themselves stepping into a galaxy full of alien species.

I'll admit the later movies were much less camp than the series they led off from, but Enterprise IS the way forward for Star Trek, if you ask me. An Enterprise movie, I say.

Enterprise is my favorite ST series as well. Hence I bought the boxsets to seasons 1-3 allready. And coming thursday... season 4 will be mine :) (The Netherlands is running a bit behind with bringing them out).

Never saw the entire season 4 on tv, so I'm very excited about watching that season, especially the mirror universe episodes.

Wasnt the USS-1701 built on Mars?

The NCC-1701 was built in orbit around earth
snippet from wiki
In the Star Trek fictional universe, the San Francisco Yards (also known as San Francisco Naval Yards or the San Francisco Fleet Yards) is a Federation shipyard in synchronous orbit over Earth. The facility is known for the development and construction of starships and its dry dock facilities. Notable ships produced by the station include the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A), the USS Excelsior (NCC-2000, ex-NX-2000), the USS Sutherland (NCC-72015) and the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E).

The NCC-1701-D was built at utopia Planita fleet yards in orbit around Mars.

God I am a geek
