I just upgraded my Dad's eMac from 10.1 to 10.4 and he's loving it. It's heaps faster and way less buggy. I had to force him though. He was "happy with what I've got" since it pretty easily satisfied his needs. Still, I think he's pretty grateful now. :)

3) And while this isn't a "big deal", I'm not sure if my graphics card is compatible with Core Image. I have an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO Mac Special Edition, 256MB vRAM (in sig). I know the "ripple effect" shouldn't be a deciding factor in an OS, but still.....

Actually if anyone could clarify any of those reasons, that would be cool!

Well I think I have seen that listed before on apples web site...and anyway the 9800 pro or XT or non they still use the same chip just different clock speed so it should do just fine ;)

Just curious, who here is still using Jaguar or Panther? Id be interesting to find out reasons why I guess...
I am still using Panther. To be honest, I intended to upgrade as soon as it would come out, but then I decided to wait a little more, since I heard that it has some bugs. Also, I'm not sure if my applications will run into Tiger. So, I will stivk with Panther until 10.4.1 or 10.4.2 comes out. All applications which don't work with tiger at the moment will have been patched till then, and I will be more safe to buy the new software...

Still Using Panther and ..........

......i dont intend to move to tiger for a while, whats the rush?? Its full of bugsand im in no mood for complications. No time for the change.

Powerbook 17" 1.5ghz/1gbRam.

I still have most of my clients running Jaguar here at work. This will soon change to boxes running Panther. My Mac at work will continue to use Panther as well.

Why? There's no need for Tiger. Until there's a legitimate need for Tiger, I have a lot of better things to do than keep up with the bleeding edge.

Still on Panther for my work Mac - too many specialty apps that I need to test before moving over to Tiger. I've got it installed at home, though, so I can enjoy it there. If I need a fix, I VNC to my iMac... :D

As soon as Digidesign get their sad, sorry arses in gear and bring ProTools into the 21st century, I'll be installing Tiger on my PowerBook and studio systems.

It's on the eMac at home, but I rarely use that machine.

Jaguar, but I'll probably risk the move to Panther soon because a friend wants to Skype with me.

Why?

1) I'm not sure if my applications I use will work on Tiger, such as: Adobe CS, Macromedia Studio MX 2004, Office 2004. But I'm sure they do work as I've read on the board that they do.

2) Printer drivers. Not sure if my Epson 2200 printer will be compatible with Tiger as of yet.

And I actually have never upgraded my OS. I still have OS X 10.3.4. I'm just nervous about something going wrong. I know there are relatively few cases where things go wrong, but still a lil worried :(

1 - I use all of these applications all of them work perfectly in Tiger
2 - I don't use your printer but a quick search of the Epson Printer package has drivers for a printer called the SP2200
3 - Yes your card is supported by Core Image

As for the question about upgrading I did a fresh install on my Power Mac G5 due to all the hacks I had installed, but on the iMac G5 I did an upgrade both worked fine here. Next time I'll just do an upgrade. As for the point upgrades .4 to .5 to .6 etc I've done them all the time and they've always worked as expected.

HTH

Still on Panther for the moment on my system (below), mainly because everything on it is just about near perfect and rock-steady. I'm not sure I want to spend time installing Tiger (archive/install or clean install) right now. Plus, I'm waiting for 10.4.1 to be released and to see if there is going to be any Tiger incompatibilities or bugs with my exising programs that work fine under Panther.

I'll most likely upgrade at some point - the initial Tiger review threads on the board have swayed my past skepticism.

I still have Panther on my G3, just because that computer doesn't have a DVD Drive (it did, but I broke it a few years ago, so now it's just a CD-ROM drive...).

I have just moved my daughter's DV 450 iMac to Tiger. So far, so good. Unfortunatly, I cannot move my three Macs to Tiger due to three programs having major problems, and all of them being networking related. I am waiting on the fixes from Thursby, Microsoft, and Cisco.

Until then, I am on Panther.

Max.

Are you serious? Tiger has only been out for one week. I could understand posing this question in 6 months, but one week. We're not all made of money and rush to buy Apple products when they first come out. Hopefully, most of us have lives here.

Still using panther here. I've my college exams at the moment so don't have time to do a full backup and install even if i had a copy of tiger. Besides my powerbooks only 512MB RAM so if i upgrade i may see a performance hit. I've two options: wait til summer and try to get it up to 1GB or just wait til my next computer for an OS upgrade, whenever that will be.

Well, after finding out about the bad rep of 10.3.9, I think I'll stick to Jaguar.

I seriously doubt that we'll ever move the work machines to Tiger. It contains nothing that will help us in the immediate short-term and is only likely to break things. We'll spend the money elsewhere and take a long, hard look at 10.5.3 when that comes around...

At home, I've installed it on a new internal HD (1 of 4), have had a little play and admit to being distinctly underwhelmed. IMHO, the upgrade from Jaguar to Panther was far more substantial and well worth the money.

I'll do a clean reinstall, move everything over to that HD and do new software installations when it's at about 10.4.2 or .3 -- I haven't got the patience to cope with the teething probelems until various software suppliers update their apps. This list includes: Toast and Retrospect.

Still on Panther:

1) I still like Panther very much.
2) Tiger needs some polishing. ( 10.4.3 probably )
3) Considering/waiting for the update of the Mac-mini.
( Tiger will be free and iLife '05 as well ! )
4) My first Mac ( PM G4 ) is not even 3 years old yet, I believe 5 years is a good term to upgrade hardware.

So there must be a very compelling hardware reason to upgrade the OS.

I still am running Panther on my PB.

I will not be purchasing Tiger anytime soon as I first want to purchase an external HD to backup my PB's hard drive in order to do a clean install. After that I will be looking at what my university offers in education discount on Tiger and I may then purchase it, only after it has had a few updates added.

But, for now Panther works just fine for me.

i'm on jaguar
as my sig says, i'm running an ibook G3 which i hear runs quite well under panther and will run under tiger. i will be purchasing a new computer and that's why i'm not upgrading to tiger. as far as panther, i never got around to it. I am kind of a cheap person (i'm NOT saying that its too expensive) and i've been perfectly fine with jaguar.

Panther. Tiger looks like too much for too little. Having said that I'll play some more with it and see if it grows on me. That and the Dashboard thread. If more widgets that are UK specific are available it's another choice. So far - no.

Still on Jaguar ... i have enough SCSI support issues with 10.2.8 that i was worried about upgrading to Panther --- i'm not even thinking about upgrading to Tiger because of it
