It's 2026 and I was wondering if this has been in any active development. I'm kinda scared to test this out.. what's the worst that can happen lol? I just replaced my clamshells hard drive and installed Tiger (10.4.11) but really miss the Jaguar UI it originally had. I lowkey don't wanna brick the OS.

It's not quite as accurate as @retta283's version, but Shuriken includes a custom pinstripe theme that emulates the menu bar and window border appearances in Panther and Jaguar as closely as possible without sacrificing stability. It is also fully reversible, provided it isn't combined with any of the other themes included:

Ahhh yes I remember that version! But I had some issues with it. I tested it out on my 1st eMac and typed in my password and it worked. But on my second eMac where I didn't have a password it caused the UI to completely disappear.. Like I just had a black screen. This was fixed by reinstalling Tiger.
I really wanna install the theme on my iBook.. but kinda spooked after what happened last time. I might give it a test run on an emulator first.

Odd that the difference in password vs no password could cause that result… I have never seen this issue before, or heard of anyone else encountering it.

Do you recall if this happened after running one of the other optimization scripts present in the tool, or was it specifically after running the installer for the pinstripes theme?

I only tried to install the Pinstripe theme and nothing else on both eMacs.. so something regarding the password was definitely an issue.

@phantomlady69 I think all else being equal, the most likely explanation was that one of the commands within the installation script was probably rejected due to a lack of permissions since UNIX systems aren't really meant to be administered without a password, particularly when it comes to an automated series of inputs such as in unattended scripts.

This probably left the process incomplete and with certain necessary files to the display server in an in-between state, resulting in being sent to the CLI Darwin login instead of the normal GUI during the next restart. So if the script is run in the future using a set password as the system expects, that error should not occur again. Or at least that is my hypothesis, anyway.

But if it were to happen again, it would be fixable without reinstalling the system. Still, I can also understand your hesitation after having that happen once. It doesn't appear that @retta283 is active nowadays, so I just wanted to offer an alternative option in the event you weren't previously aware it existed.
