1. the xgpsutil is used if you purchased a standalone gps kits directly from the company that develops the xgps software...you dont need it to use the iphones built in gps chip.

2. nope you dont need 3g for gps but you need it to download the maps

3. installer was more popular during the 1.x days of jailbreaking...cydia is pretty much the new and improved version...i dont even use installer anymore

hope this helps

One's actively used and developed, the other.... not so much.

I'd recommend Cydia: it's based on a tried-and-true code base (apt), and there are a vast number of repositories out there. Installer, on the other hand, is a rather hackish and fragile beast, and is not exactly a reliable way to install software.

Your iPhone should have unlimited data, no need to worry about any huge bills. There's also no way to download the the maps, the Maps app uses GPS and when the map is used, it downloads it on the fly.

i wish apple would give us push notification so I could see if there were an update without actually having to open the app store application or the cydia application.

if youre using xgps then you can download the maps...and you should have unlimited data so theres no need to worry about huge bills...but if you still want to turn off data you can enable airplane mode but then of course you wont receive calls

My boyfriend, who has t-mobile service just purchased an I phone through a friend of a friend. (which could be a red flag) It was supposedly unlocked and jailbroken. He put his sim card in and seemed to work for about a week. He then connected his phone to itunes and he had the box checked that does automatic updates. After that his phone went out. So on Sunday he ran across somebody that jailbreaks iphones we paid the guy 25 dollars he used what was called Quickpwn software, and he told us to never update through itunes because it will make the phone go down again. I also asked him if certain applications that can be downloaded could also cause his phone to go down and he said no...I'm no expert but I think that's a crock. But is it true? Personally why would the guy invest in the software if he wasn't having the same issues as everone else? But maybe I'm being to skepticle! So last evening my boyfriend is looking up apps and starts downloading them and what happen? You guessed it! This is the 2nd time that it's happened and want to know what preventative measure we can take to keep this from happening again, if it's not too late. I have heard a lot of people say that they have no problems with their phone once jailbroken and others say they are always having issues. There are so many stories out there and so hard to tell the true from the false! PLEASE HELP!!!!

1) Apps don't cause your phone to be un-jailbroken

If you downloaded the apps from iTunes, and not the App Store on your iPhone, then yes, it will update your phone.

And he didn't "invest" in QuickPwn. Its free. Any moron with a brain could work it. But then he wouldn't be a moron then would he :p

I download all of my apps from the App Store on my iPhone, they work and don't take away my jailbreak.

I COULD download them through iTunes also, but that would kill my unlock (Supposedly speaking. I have no unlock). And I also don't because my 'acquired' apps will be broken once I sync it with iTunes.
