    Hi;

    I have just received a new week 46 iphone.

    It won't let me do anything except connect to itunes.

    I know there isn't a hack for 1.1.2 or baseband 4.6 yet, but I was hoping I could @ least (in the mean time) use the phone as an ipod touch, and maybe connect it to wifi and check out other apps.

    Can anyone help with this, or even provide a link so I can play with this baby?

    have you activated your iPhone yet? If so you can now jailbreak it, if you go to modmyifone.com, they have step by step instructions ok how to do it.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I am in Canada and don't want to, or can't activate with At&T.. is there another way to jailbreak?

    You don't need to activate to jailbreak. Take a look at some of the instructions at hackin0sh.org

    are you asking whether or not you are able to bypass the activation on an iPhone that came with 1.1.2 out of the box? If so, I would also like to know the answer to this, because I'm about to buy an iPhone that will have 1.1.2 on it OOB, and I don't plan to get the data plan straight away.

    You can jailbreak a new 1.1.2 iPhone (either U.S. or Euro). It is not yet possible to unlock a new 1.1.2 iPhone. For those unfamiliar with this language, jailbreak means you can activate it, use any feature except for the phone, and install 3rd party software. It is not yet possible to unlock a new 1.1.2 iPhone for use with any wireless provider/SIM.

    So if you are looking to buy a new 1.1.2 iPhone without a contract, be prepared to have essentially an iPod Touch for possibly a long time (obviously this does not apply to crazy wealthy German/French buyers).

    I was planning on buying a iPhone in the UK this week, does this mean I'll be stuck with an overpriced iPod Touch until someone figures out how to unlock it?

    I can't afford to leave my contract and pay o2's exuberant monthly plans.

    That is exactly the situation.
