pros.... well make your iOS device look fricken awesome!!!
cons.... loose applecare, possibility of really messing your iPod up, and its less secure.

.
cons: Can't think of any sorry.

I didn't jailbreak so far, so I am just guessing some cons:

  • Potential loss of warrenty
  • Can't use iOS updates immediately
  • Changes you do to your contacts etc while on jailbreak are lost in case you move back to the unjailbreak version

I'm not sure about the last point, correct me please.

May I ask an vaguely topic related question?

When you do a backup via iTunes, will that backup only the apple app data or all data? Example, all mails in the gmail app are also backed up or not?

I didn't jb yet, but I am really tempted.

Chances are you won't screw up your contacts unless you actually screwing around with their files, which you shouldn't do unless you know what you are doing.

I believe it backs up all data, but for gmail, the data is stored on google servers, so you could delete the app and redownload it right now and you would still have all your emails.
