- Install all ".app" folders into /Applications/ on your iPod.
- Install GMM.framework into /System/Frameworks/ on your iPod.
- Install MobileMailSettings.bundle into /System/PreferenceBundles/ on your iPod.
- Log in to your iPod using an ssh client, then type this command: /bin/chmod -Rf +x /Applications/ (You MUST do this for apps to work!)
OR
- If you use a GUI SFTP client like WinSCP, you can highlight the copied files on your iPod, right-click for Properties and enter 0755 in the Octal field. This is the equivalent of the chmod command right above.

Original post updated. Please let me know if there are more links you want included over the past day or so (I wasn't here). Also, if any Mac jailbreakers could tell me if there are better suggestions than I made in the post?

(As is obvious, one of the primary purposes of this thread is to alleviate the occurence of continuously repeated new-thread questions from unexperienced jailbreakers...)

Thanks for putting this together. I agree, this should be stickied. I think I'm am going to try to jailbreak my iPod touch (which should be coming tomorrow).

I downloaded the apps and used WinSCP to transfer those file over. Put in right places and such, check properties to see if the they were 0755 in octal field, they were. When I click on any of the icons for the iphone apps the program opens and the app sticks. It stops but if I hit the home button it will drop out and go back to springboard but none of the apps work at all.

Any help?

I am running windows p home, I used the touchfree jailbrake and it worked perfecting first time.

DO have framework 2.0 installed

Please Help.

PS anyone else notice Bluetooth and EDGE setting in the bundle folder on their ipod?

I know how to fix the problem. This should be added to the first post:

In WinSCP when changing the permissions to 0755, you need to make sure to check the box at the bottom that says "Set group, owner and permissions recursively."

Hey, Thanks alot. That needs to be added to the first post.

Does anyone know about the Yahoo Mail. I went to yahoo's site and it says the free mail works with it. But I keep getting authentication failed errors. Any ideas? Should I change my password to be longer?

I don't remember specifically which commands, but I know that there were several new /bin/ commands introduced to the touch after I installed the BSD package from Installer.app (after completing jailbreak; maybe I'm wrong?). Are you done with the jailbreak? I'd like to verify for myself that the /bin/ commands were added after the BSD package.

Thank you for this one. Updated original post with credit.

Problem getting *.app when using Windows

Hi

I successfully jailbroke my 16 GB iPod touch (thanks for the great work, folks!) However since I'm using Windows, every ZIP application I have tried handles BoTGoD's archive containing the native iPhone apps differently from Mac OS. Windows actually decompresses the whole *.app file into a folder and subfolders. Because of this little issue, I can't figure out how to get them into the iPod.

Would it be possible to request for the Nullriver folks to make these easily accessible from within Installer.app and make the process of getting Mail/Maps/Notes for the iPod touch as trivial as going to Installer > Install and have a subcategory there alongside Games/Network/Productivity/etc named "iPhone applications" for iPod touch ?

This will surely help a lot of folks on Windows [there are many! there are more iPod touch users who are on Windows than on Mac]. Thanks in advance!

This is exactly how it's supposed to work, and how most people have installed the iPhone apps.

Use WinSCP to "SFTP" into your iPod touch using the iPod's IP Address. Simply navigate to the right directories on your iPod (listed in the original post) and click-drag-drop the entire folders that you unzipped. When you unzip, you'll notice that the folders are arranged exactly in the locations they should appear copied on to the touch.

Oh. Is that so. I thought the *.app's are sposed to remain intact as archives when you put them in the touch. I'll try this then. Thanks.

That's what I thought too when I first saw mention of the ".app" naming. During jailbreak I realized that ".app" is definitely not a file extension, as you may have thought. It looks only to be a naming convention to designate a folder as containing a specific group of application files.

Anyone manage to tether their iPt to their WM6 smartphone?

I think I did everything right, but I get "safari can't find server" error.
