Jailbreaking 3G 3.0.1

I haven't upgraded and am thinking of jailbreaking my phone so I can use a program to make my phone a wireless router so I can get an ipad.

With 3.0.1 what do I need to do?

Also I haven't upgrades so I can use the phone to tether.

Use Pwnage Tool 3.1.4 to create a custom_restore IPSW which will preserve your baseband. Use iTunes to install it, then Ultrasn0w to unlock if desired.
