Jailbreaking An iPhone, What's To Gain?

I'm Considering Jail Breaking My iPhone. Ever Since My 3G Was Stolen And I Fell Back On My Original My Phone HAS No Warranty I'm Thinking I Might As Well Give It A Try Seeing AS I Have Nothing To Lose. (Apple Doesn't Offer Them On Original iPhones Anymore)


I'm Interested in Converting My Phone Into A Mobile Hotspot(I Think It's Called Tethering) , I Hear That You Can Do That When You jail break Your Phone And If Anyone Knows How To Do This i Would Love You Forever If You Could Share!

So What Could/Should I Do With A Jail Broken iPhone And How Do i JB it?

I don't wanna JB but UL to use it on a different GSM carrier. I guess there is no way to UL without first JB an iphone?
