I'm also trying to downgrade to 4.0.1 on a 3GS but getting error 3194.
Does this mean that Apple are no longer approving 4.0.1?

Correct. Apple is no longer signing 4.0.1 installs. You will have to wait until the dev team/etc releases the new jailbreak. They will likely save their exploits for the next major os update.

Shame.
Is there not something I can do (with my hosts file for instance) so that the 4.0.1 downgrade works?

I'm trying to sell the iPhone for a friend and he needs to get the most money for it, which he would get if it was jailbroken.

He went ahead and upgraded to 4.0.2, not knowing of the consequences.

Unfortunately, hosts file modification requires that you used Cydia on a previously jailbrolen phone, or tinyumbrella. Both must have been done while apple was signing the firmwares you want to downgrade to.

As of the 3GS (midway update) there must be SHSH verification to perform any firmware change.

There is no way around this. You have to wait.

I have some questions...

I JB my phone last Friday,I had version 4.0.2 on my phone and I downgraded to 4.0.1(It says this on my phone that I have version 4.0.1)

Since last Friday, when I clicked on the Cydia icon on my phone it said at the top of Cydia home page: This device has a Pending TSS request.

Now it says: This device has SHSH's on file for Iphone OS: 4.0

Is this because Apple stopped signing off on 4.0.1 and we have to wait for 4.0.2/4.1 update?

Thanks guys!

Yes, Apple stopped releasing SHSH's for 4.0.1 about a week or so ago so the only thing you will get now is 4.0.2 and everything after that.

Guess what?

I must of beat that window, for when Apple stopped releasing SHSH's..because when I got up this morning, it's says on the top of Cydias' Home page that:"This device has SHSH's on file for iPhone OS/iOS:4.0 and now 4.0.1!:D

Now ask me if I'm a happy camper?:p
(I know,I know...I get excited over the littlest things!) LMAO

could i do this today without any issues?
downgrade from 4.0.2 (8A400) to 4.0.1(8A306)?

If you follow the thread, as long as you have your 4.0.1 SHSH blobs saved, you can downgrade to 4.0.1 firmware anytime. Thus, the question would be do you have the SHSH blobs saved?

Just Learning - Couple of Questions

Is a iPhone 4 still referred to as 3GS ?

Is there a jailbreak available for a iPhone 4 with version 4.0.2 (8A400) as yet
