Hello,
I know there are so many threads in here, but they start to run together after a while.

I'm using an iPhone 4 w/ 4.0.2 all I want to accomplish is change my text tones, and email sound. I hate when people with iPhones are near me, and I think it's my phone.

I know jailbreaking http://jailbreakme.com doesn't want to work with 4.0.2

I already converted the filed i want to use to .aiff using Switch which is awesome.

Can someone please help me and if your recommending going back to 4.0.1 can you please let me know where I can get the file.

Thanks
Chris

yes go back to 4.0.1 do it quick you can google how to or search here. I t was discussed today. do quick since Apple will stop signing 4.0.1 soon then you will be sol!

but Apple is still signing 4.0.1 so it's still possible to downgrade! not sure how much longer, but there have been many that have downgraded with out use of shsh!

They were still signing it last night. Doesn't mean they are today. It could go away in a matter of hours.

is it as easy to downgrade as replacing the ipsw file and doing a restore? untill they stop signing it?

you will need to point iTunes to the 4.0.1 ipsw as clicking restore will just reinstall 4.0.2

to do this:
mac - hold options key then restore
windows - hold shift then click restore

and then go to the 4.0.1 ipsw file, click on it then open

though so. last i did it i replaced the newer file and did a restore but i had it was a bit hard some errors and stuff :p but it worked :D

I think apple is letting users downgrade for an extended period of time because their goal was to fix the very serious bug that allowed jailbreakme.com to work in the first place, while at the same time allowing users who want to jailbreak to downgrade their devices. Best of both worlds. Apple doesn't *really* want to prevent you from jailbreaking, they just want to make it hard enough that totally unsophisticated users won't do it.

there is some truth to what he said bc i had to call apple support the other day, my facetime wouldnt activate.. got a cool dude on the phone asked me to upgrade to 4.0.2 i said no, he said are u jailbroken i said yep. he said well i am not suppose to tech support jailbroken phones so he showed me how to restore my phone with 4.0.1 (i already knew how..) and then we got facetime working and he said go ahead and re-run the jailbreak since its been updated for the facetime/mms fix.. he read me the paragraph about how if u ran it the day it was released to do the repo but since i just re-ran it id be fine, he even stayed on the line as i upgraded cydia to make sure facetime still worked. guy was id say late 20s. very cool guy tho.

phone call lasted roughly 35mins

I bought an iPhone 3GS off of craigslist this evening. It had iOS 4.0.2 installed. I was able to revert to iOS 4.0.1 in iTunes and jailbreak with JailBreakMe and unlock to T-Mobile :) Happy days!

How do your restore your phoen with 4.0.1?

Where can I get the 4.0.1 ipsw?

As of earlier today, Apple was still signing iOS 4.0.1 - all you have to do is download the IPSW of iOS 4.0.1 and manually point iTunes to it, and restore.

However, if Apple is not signing it anymore, you're out of luck.

Where does one get the 4.0.1 ipsw?

I just bought an iphone 4 with 4.0.1 on it, how do I save the 4.0.1 version of the software so if for some reason i upgrade i can still go back to 4.0.1? Do all I have to do is make a backup with itunes?
