    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Price seems high but I'm not an expert on that. Just be sure to get a phone produced before the iboot change or you'll be dealing with a tethered jailbreak. Search the forum for info on determining production week.

Apple recently updated the 3Gs software. If you get one of these newer phones you will still be able to jailbreak but every time you turn off or reboot your phone it will have to be coonected to a computer. Very inconvenient.

    Pwnage Tool or Blackra1n.

Is it worth it? Up to you. For me? Absolutely.

They are different but accomplish the same. As a novice, I recommend some research on both before you dive in. You have a 3GS, unless you dog with a ton of background apps, it won't be slow at all.

Be aware that if your phone is new it may have the new version of iBoot, in which case your jailbreak will be tethered. Read more about it here.

Well, what happens when you try to jailbreak it? If you get stuck at the boot logo, run blackra1n again; that should cause your phone to boot up.

That's what's expected to happen with a tethered jailbreak! You have to run blackra1n again to get your phone to boot, and you will have to re-run it every time you reboot. For the Nth time, you need actually to read this thread.
