    hey guys,

I just got a 3gs and loving it. I know a few people who have jailbroken their phones, however everyone who does this sees a significant speed decrease, and some functionalities dont seem to be as smooth/work anymore.

I am wondering if there is a way that I can grab his apps off his phone to mine, he has downloaded them all with cylia (I believe...) or whatever that free download sw is..

My initial thought is that if he brought the apps off the itunes and I just tossed them on mine and synced it... because they arnt downloaded from app store...

anyways can someone help me out with this?

No you can not. Its a lot more then just "grabbing" the apps, unlocking and jail breaking are required to run apps downloaded from cydia installer.

*sigh* Jailbreaking gives you access to your phone's file system. Without that access, it is impossible to install, run, or in any way use any application not approved by Apple. There is no way to install or run any Cydia apps on a non-jailbroken phone.

That said, simply jailbreaking your phone does not significantly affect its speed. It is only applications (especially those that run in the background) that will cause the slowdown. As long as the apps you use don't run in the background (including those that rely on mobile substrate), you shouldn't have a problem.

wont work, you can't copy apps from another iPhone without jailbreaking.

Very good point. I run a 3GS with all kinds of background processes and have never noticed any lag. I really wouldn't worry about jailbreaking.
