I have an iPhone 3g previously running 4.2.1 firmware, jailbroken with redsn0w, and baseband at 6.15.00

I was going to sell it so I went to the reset portion of the phone and did thee "erase all content and settings". after this, I go to restore and nothing works. phone goes into recovery mode and evertime I try to restore I get a "1015 ERROR" please help....

You will not be able to restore to stock firmware.
You have to put the phone in pwned dfu mode and restore to custom jb ipsw.

Never "erase all content and settings" when the iPhone is JBed. You are on baseband 6.15.00; which means you've got iPad baseband. Does buyer know about it? You should google "restore baseband 6.15.00". It shouldn't be that difficult.

Happened to me too, I felt like I bricked the phone  and it took me forever to find the right combination of steps to get around this, but I finally did figure out something. :D

You can use EasyiRecovery to get out of the recovery loop mode and be able to use the phone again, but you'll likely have made the phone unrestorable having done what you've done. If you use EasyIRecovery, sometimes you have to click the third button multiple times and wait a while before it kicks it out of the recovery mode. When you get out of the loop you'll notice that nothing was erased actually. The phone should still be jailbroken and have all apps and content on it.

If you need to restore a custom (or older stock) ipsw, while maintaining the baseband so you can still unlock it, you'll need to use TinyUmbrella to restore an older stock firmware, using iREB to put your phone in Pwned DFU mode first. Afterwards, using iREB again to go into Pwned DFU mode you should be able to restore a custom ipsw, maintaining your baseband.

However, if you don't care about upgrading your baseband (and making it so you can't unlock it) you should be able to restore the latest iOS firmware normally without jumping through any hoops.

Let me know if this info helps anyone. :)

Hi, the exact same thing has happened to me. what do you mean restore to jb ipsw??

You need to make a custom IPSW with redsnow, put your iphone in "pwned" dfu mode and restore with itunes by selecting the firmware file you created with redsnow.
If none of the above makes sense research more to become more familiar before you attempt anything.

Stuck in mistakenly updating Jailbroken 3gs iphone

I bought a used at&t Jailbroken iphone 3gs with system version 4.3. I thought I can simply upgrade it to 5, while I'm in the middle of the process , connected to itunes, it reboots, then after interring the language and connection settings, I'm stuck at the grey screen says " it may take 3 minutes to activate your iphone" then it says sorry your Iphone couldn't be activated ... I tried to restore it back to the old version through itunes, but again stuck at this screen .

I took it to Apple store and they tried to restore it with no luck. Is there any way to have my iphone working again? Please help me, noting that I'm a beginner in those terms usually used in your answers. please post a detailed step-by-step solution if possible, should I get any recommended software that may help.

Jailbreak it with redsn0w, during the process it will ask to activated the phoNe, do so.

As it is not activating you will nit have AT&T as carrier, therefor you'll have to unlock. If you updated to 5.1.1 it will now have a BaseBand that cannot be unlocked.

Try redsn0w first and afterwards provide some more info on the phone; current firmware and baseband and if it is an old 3gs or not.
