Right Click on your desktop, Show View Options, and check Show Item Info.

I've been experimenting a lot with GeekTool lately. I'm currently changing the layout (again) at the time of this post.

You can also change the default text under the drive, to shorten it a bit. link. Scroll down to where it says "Shorten the Finder's 'Show Item Info' text" and it'll be right there.
