We are moving from Japan to the US, does anyone know if an iphone purchased in Japan and using Soft Bank, will let us use the phone in the US obviously with a US carrier? Otherwise, I plan on giving the phone to a friend. We already are going to lose lots of money breaking contracts!

You will need to jailbreak the phone with Redsn0w, and then unlock it with Ultrasn0w and you can use it in the US all you want. 🙂

You can buy a prepaid sim card for use on T-Mobile, or AT&T's goPhone.

Then you would just load it up with a dollar amount for usage, On goPhone, data for the month is $19.99. I could be mistaken though.
