Java and chatsites and confusion(s)

So, like many, my Firefox tells me that my Java is known to be unstable and have security issues...
No 1) What do I do there?

because:

For some reason I cannot enter certain chat sites. It says "connects" for ten seconds or so, and then tells me "connection failed".
I have no firewall and no adblock plus.
I assumed it was a network thing, but I _used_ to be able to access these sites... So what happened? Related to java?

Please help a poor fool... I know I'm dumb, don't mock.
