Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest JDK release from Oracle: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html (file jdk-8u112-macosx-x64.dmg)

no, its the 'accept license' question. it just shows that blank box so i cant click on accept, any ideas? thank you!

Could always use a different browser to see whether you get the accept button.

Install the legacy version of Java available at https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572 then restart. I have seen this work on dozens of Macs.
i just used chrome to download java. the problem was with the 'accept cookies' query. thank you all for your help!
