ANY program that uses java on my computer crashes when I try to open it (that includes safari and firefox when a website needs java). I've tried software update and restarting, no luck. What can I do? Can I reinstall java?

Here are the console errors when I try to open a program that uses Java...

let me guess, your using Safari 4 beta, and these problems started at the same time you upgraded from Safari 3?

    Mac OS X 10.5.6

    Safari Version 3.2.1 (5525.27.1)

It happens with other programs that use Java (such as my stock trading program and Limewire)

I am dealing with a simillar problem (Java-Web-Client is "gone") and Java based programs crash on startup. How did you fix your problem?

This is the error I am getting from Zattoo (example) after it crashed:

    Identifier: com.Zattoo.prefs

I had to put in the 2nd mac os x install disk and search through it until I found the java installer and just reinstalled java from that cd.

I am guessing you are talking about the "applications install cd", correct? How do I search thru it? All I can see is a Software bundle which "cannot be installed (in German)" .

just double click on the cd on your desktop, then when that window comes up, use the search in the top right (of that window) and type in java.
