java path issue?

I'm unable to run apps that use java, specifically Eclipse or FetchArt for iTunes.

I'm on osx 10.6.1. From terminal, in zsh and bash, java -version returns:
java version "1.6.0_15"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_15-b03-219)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.1-b02-90, mixed mode)

If I start Eclipse, it says a JRE was not found. Likewise, FetchArt returns "sh: java: command not found."

I'm sure this is a stupid setup issue; can someone point out the specifics of my idiocy?
