i've noticed roughly 3/4 of the websites i go to that use java i can't get to open, in either firefox or safari. how do i find out if i have all the right plugins, etc?
firefox help was not so much so, and since it affects safari too, i thought i would bring it to the brilliant minds of macrumors.
thanks

What version OS are you using? (Apple menu > About this mac)

What version of Java? (Open terminal and type "java -version", paste the output here)

whoops, made a silly newb mistake there.
I am on a 900mhz g3 ibook running 10.2.6.
java version "1.4.1_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-69.1)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_01-24, mixed mode)

Looks like you could upgrade to 10.2.8 and Java 1.4.2

Try that first and see if you have any luck with the problem sites.

Do you have any sites in mind that we could try out to see if they are problematic?

FWIW, the latest 10.3.x version of Safari, as well as - to a lessor extent - the updated Java version that's in 10.3.x, definitely allow for better Java compatibility than their Jaguar counterparts.

every video game

i tried it with IE, safari and firefox...🙁 not a huge deal, and i don't care so much about the website, it was more that i can't seem to get the java stuff going at all.
and it's not just that site, that was just the latest.
thanks for all the advice so far guys. 🙂
