So, I got a new (refurbed) 2015 iMac and it's running the latest OS. I keep getting a prompt for Java when browsing.
It has a link for more info and when you click on it it takes you to Oracle and you can DL the latest version of Java, (which I've done). Problem is the prompt keeps coming back. Any ideas for getting rid of this annoyance?

OK, so I installed the older version of Java, as suggested by FreakinEurekan's link and that seems to have taken care of the issue. Not sure what the long term ramifications may be, (by not having the latest version of Java), but I'll run with it to keep the annoying prompt away. Thanks, Freakin'!

Since your computer might be exposed to potential vulnerabilities of an older Java, I'd recommend you to install the latest JRE: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html - file "jre-8u112-macosx-x64.dmg"

This would be enough to run java scripts in the browser, but if by any chance you need to compile something that requires Java, download JDK instead: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html - file "jdk-8u112-macosx-x64.dmg"
