Trying to access a usual website that requires Java, I was unable to do so. I downloaded a version of Java, and yet I still can't access the site. Any advice on this, please?

Try from this link: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html

Accept licence agreement & download/install the .dmg file for Mac OS X.

Does that work?

Browser plugins are disabled by default. Safari preferences → ‘Security’ → ‘Internet plug-ins’.

Java is enabled, but this particular site (it's the Wall Street Journal crossword) still isn't working for me.

If that means have I pasted the URL in the list, yes, I have. But it's not making an exception for it.
