Someone pointed this out in the News section.

    If you watch the keynote:
    http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/d7625zs/event/

Go to 1:17:00 to about 1:17:50

    It happens exactly at 1:17:19

Notice when he goes to the Apple website, the news ticker changes.

    Isn't that ticker Javascript?

    ??

Yep it is. Java and Javascript are two different things though if that is what your thingking... Javascript has always been available for the phone I believe.

Steve said AJAX could be used to make programs that run within Safari on the phone:

"Ajax is a cross-platform technology usable on many different operating systems, computer architectures and Web browsers as it is based on open standards such as JavaScript and XML, together with open source implementations of other required technologies."

This is so frustrating. I hate how assumptions are being made based on the very brief confirmed but almost unofficial announcements. I will just be happy when we get our hands on the bloody thing.

Java and Javascript are certainly not the same thing. People need to just chill out.

LOL me too. Im a web designer and just chuckle at some of the things people are posting - and then they (not in this thread for any of this BTW) insist no one will want to buy one - including their old parents. Most people this phone is marketed towards do not even know what Java/Javascript/Ajax/Flash/etc etc is. (thats not say some do - but there are far more people in the USA that will buy this that have no idea than those that do)

Yeah. Apple has it right here. "Its not about making flash work so people can go to youtube. Its about working with youtube so you can view their videos." Apple is taking care of the customer.
