Clearly aint working for the guy on the right. So what makes apple think it'll work for the average joe when the technician with all the tech at his disposal is over weight. Find something that works for his type then you will have cracked the puzzle.

Not the average - but - Joe Kovocs. Clearly an Athlete.

I still can't help but feel Apple Watch fitness is "fitness lite." Bottom line is competitors from Fitbit and Garmin both now have MORE accurate optical HR sensors, record FAR more fitness data (every single second 24/7 vs. about once per TEN MINUTES on the Apple Watch except during workouts) and because of their superior battery life have built in automatic sleep tracking that truly works (while Apple doesn't because most need to charge their watches at night).

On top of this Apple's attempts at tracking runs and other fitness events is weak vs. competitors. Apple has no good way to track intervals, plan workouts, see data points while on a run, and see extensive data summaries after a run and over time. Garmin in particular kills Apple here and even Fitbit shows far more. Both competitors even auto-sense activities like running, walking, biking etc. and will auto-record and summarize workouts even if you don't start manually tracking them!

I'd thought that 3rd party apps would cover the slack for Apple but limitations in the APIs still result in the Apple Watch being a far less serious fitness watch vs. almost any competitor.

I'm *glad* Apple is adding fitness capabilities to the watch, but I'd love to see far, far more... the potential is there but both the hardware and the software need to catchup to their fitness focused competitors.

The reason none of the other competitors you mention are even in the same room with Apple's smart watch in sales, is because Apple is striving for the best all around smart watch, which balances fitness with other important things to people. In the end, if people don't buy your product, or won't wear it, then your product is doing nothing to help people with their health and fitness goals. Thus, in the end, tens of millions of Apple Watch wearers are using their AW to become for fit and health aware, the others, not so much. Oh, and BTW, as far as accuracy in HR sensors, the bulk of the studies don't back up your claim. Here's just one example that refutes the Garmin and Fitbit are more accurate.

Apple Watch shipping and sales numbers don't mean crap. Numbers don't tell the story. The problem with Apple fanboys is that they like using it as a scoreboard. It doesn't mean anything. It's what under the hood and behind the real story that counts.

Apple Watch is nothing but a fancy notification device and 'jack of all trades, master of none'. It's a wanna-be smartwatch that Cook is trying to push hard to create his own legacy when he has no reason to. Second, real professional athletes don't use Apple Watch exclusively for training purposes let alone Garmin and Polar which are more accurate and focused.

Apple Watch is an attempt on fashion and to make you look 'good'. That's it. It's eye candy. It's like buying a video game with the most beautiful graphics but with crappy game play. If Apple Watch is going to be top of the line and worth near $1,000, it better have a battery life of more than 4 days to a week. Do you know why it has crap 12-14 hours on it? It's because they replicated the entire iPhone OS onto a small form factor with too many un-necessary apps sucking up juice.

And to say Apple Watch's heart rate sensor is the most accurate is actually BULL. It had one sensor that was supposed to help with diabetes ( read glucose ) but it was not passed through the FDA and still non-functioning. It's IN the Watch but people like you probably blew off more than $500 for a Watch that had a non-functioning sensor.

Most importantly, Apple Watch did NOT have a pulse oximeter ( for blood oxygen ) which is extremely important. That should have been in the Watch in the first place to reflect the price value of it. I doubt oximeters work on a wrist because you have to use the finger-based device seen at hospitals which are very accurate. I should know because I had pneumonia two years ago and had below 95% oxygen in my blood which is dangerous. The hospital used the oximeter device on my finger to keep checking my levels.

For Apple to claim to be the watch as best selling is a crock and an insult. All I care about is my heart rate and blood oxygen levels, not just some glorified iphone OS on a Watch that does everything. And as a fencer myself, I need to check my performance levels and check the time, especially a stop-watch that's handy. I don't need to see email, check the weather and all that. My phone does this for me. That's what it's for.

This is why Garmin, as an example, is far more trusted when it comes to dedicated sports watches for high performance levels. Apple Watch was not designed for that. Just because the Apple Watch can do Siri like iPhone does NOT mean it's the best watch in the market. It makes it pointless and defeats the purpose of using the iPhone.

It's a vanity watch. Period.

Hint, people stopped reading after they read "Apple Watch sales numbers don't mean crap."
