Hi Everyone,

I just recently moved to USA and have an iPhone 6 locked to a foreign carrier. My questions are;

1: Is there an unlock for iOS 8.1 with baseband 1.04.00?
2: If I jailbreak and unlock the phone, is it possible to activate the SIM card in the phone or can I let my wife do that in her factory unlocked phone and then use it in mine?

Thanks in advance,

There's no unlock via jb hacks for a very very long time like my friend E said above.
Your only option is to ask your carrier for an unlock or purchase an IMEI if its available for your provider.

This is one of my biggest disappointments that software unlocks via jailbreak have stopped.
They stopped because unlocks started selling for $1 to $3 at one point AND because carriers will unlock for free now.

Why hassle with jail breaking and software unlocks when you can call your carrier up?

Unlocking is not as simple as you have just made it out to be for all regions. Particularly in the global south which as you may or may not know has an almost insatiable appetite for smartphones these with most moving away from feature phones quarter by quarter. For example I cannot just call up my carrier and request an unlock code that isn't how the system works. There is also no factory unlock for my iphone I would have to use rsim.

I understand that.

But what does that say then about the market?

If there was value in this for devs, who by the way are mostly North American, then this would still be something that is happening. Or, a dev from your country or region would be doing this. But there isn't.

So, no offense, but the market share/profit/demand for this just isn't there - or isn't enough for a dev to continue with the time and effort.

Actually it is more like the devs are mostly from developed countries which do not have an issue with getting unlock codes so what exactly would be there incentive to work on this for iphone owners in developing countries?

Not surer how profitability comes into this argument because I am not sure it is that much harder to come out with a software unlock in comparison to a jailbreak for a new version of ios. As far as I know jailbreak developers do not earn from the publication of their exploits.

Not really.
Most people that want an unlocked phone can get one easily or request one from their carrier.
There's only a few instances for carriers that do no unlock.
