This is the only one I have right now...The interior is pretty much just standard, but it did come with leather seats unlike most Laredos

Nice. It looks like it's in pretty good shape from what I can see.

I would suggest you test drive the new Forte Koup. Very sporty, and a probable chick magnet. ;)

Pssh, chicks dig Jeeps. Well Jeep Wrangler's that is.

Being a kid like you OP (I'm 19) I'll tell you that I love my Jeep. I have a Wrangler, but still. Jeeps aren't just cars, they are a way of life.

I don't think he's worried about what we think is necessary. He should go for the JGC as long as he realizes how much gas he's going to be burning through.

MPG? What's that? More like FPG... (Fun per gallon).

I get 8-10mpg in my Wrangler. No big deal. :D

Have to see what the new carb I just installed get's me up to though.

OP: Congrats on your purchase BTW. I'm sure you'll love it. :)

I'd say Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm 16 also, and I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L I6. It's seriously the best car ever. Despite what people say, it's very reliable. Also, parts and service comes cheap and you can get it serviced or worked on ANYWHERE.

I used to feel that way, but when you start driving hundreds of miles at a time and have to make multiple fill-up stops, you may change your tune. Until then, though, go balls out.

I'm 17 and quite frankly I would be perfectly happy with one. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Must be your location. I recently moved to the NE and really wanted a Subaru wagon when I was looking for cars (although I had a budget of no more than 2k, unlike the OP who has parents backing his purchase). The AWD would have been incredible during the winter. Unfortunately I couldn't find a Subaru in that price range that hadn't been rusted out, so now I'm rolling in a 97 Oldsmobile. Gets the job done.

Congrats on joining the jeep community. If you ever need help or have questions, try JeepForum.com. There is probably a local jeep club near you as well.

Jeep parts

grand cherokees don't need huge horsepower they can go up mountains, can turn around in a swtich back instead of falling off a cliff. What else do you need? I'd definately take gobbs of grip over speed any day.
How about CJ5's, tons of guys seem to have them?

Why get a Jeep when you could get a proper car? I mean, do you need those off-road capabilities? No? Then why not get a car that has qualities that you can use and enjoy daily?

He already got it, and he got it because that's what he wanted.

Doesn't anyone still buy cars for the sake of "I bought it because I wanted it"? Or do you just find the biggest piece of crap you can tolerate?

I mean there's practical, and then there's buying a fun car - a Civic SI can be a lot of fun if you're into that thing, or a WRX, or who knows? There's lots of pretty mundane cars out there with very fun performance versions.

Sure, he "wanted it". But I can't fathom why. Sure, if he needs a car that can off-road, then sure. But for driving in the suburbs? There are lots of other cars that are better suited for that. 4x4's always make sacrifices for the sake of off-road-performance. And the driver has to live with those sacrifices. And if he never needs those off-road capabilities, he's suffering for nothing.

So why not get a sedan or something instead? A car that is better to drive, consumes less fuel, is more comfortable etc. Sure, it might not be suitable for off-roading, but if the owner does not plan to do any of that, then there's no harm.
