I shot a ton of pics w/my Leica and more recently only using my i4 using Camera+ or Hipstamatic and people have just assumed the pics were taken by my Leica (rangefinder). Now that's sayin something. Personally there is no way the i4 can compete with the Leica M8 but to the average person I guess it can! Impressed with the i4 and those apps.

If you like over sharpened, over saturated, and low dynamic range images then yes, the iPhone 4 takes "incredible" photos.
...I won't be tossing out my point and shoot any time soon.

Snob much?

Yes of course a camera on a phone with a lense the size of a pin head can't fully replace nor match the quality of a dedicated camera, but for what it is, a camera on a phone that's with you always, it's pretty remarkable.

Its one failing that I think can be fixed with firmware is white balance with artificial, indoor light. But outdoors it's surprisingly capable for a camera in a phone.

The iP4 definitely takes great photos for a cell phone....but what does this have to do with Jesus?

Pssh.

I think the camera quality is way overrated. Is it better than the 3G? You bet. But it's deceiving to take snapshots of interesting flowers or buildings under ideal conditions and make the determination that it is a great camera. When I take general pictures of people indoors they really don't look all that great when I load them up on a computer and look at them. They're fine, but let's not get carried away that we'll soon be throwing away our DSLRs.

IDK, I'm not too impressed. Maybe it's just me...

It's amazing in comparison to the 3Gs. These are about the best I could do with a 3Gs. Still great for a cellphone, though. The Mustang is taken whilst quite cloudy outside, and the lizards are in a fairly dim lit room, so they're not mega sharp. The huts and the Helta Skelta, however, are in perfect condtions..

iP4 and SD790IS

.

Here's a couple more shots doing a direct compare of the iP4 and
a good point and shoot camera, the SD790IS. These shots were
taken within a few seconds of each other. I have found the iP4
fares better with closer up subjects. I just love the iP4 camera !
