Would seem all the extra manufacturing processes it takes to achieve the Jet Black finish cost more, hence why it's only available on the more expensive storage points.

Could also be more expensive to produce or requires a new process. Apple's profit margin would be smaller on that one compared to the others.

So, in the spirit of splitting hairs - the Jet Black phone does NOT cost more than the others (a 128gb Jet Black phone is the same price as a 128gb black, silver, gold, and rose gold phone), but they simply don't offer it in the 32gb option. There's a difference.

Yeh sorry but that's baloney. The increased cost of jet black is to bump up profits. The manufacturing process wouldn't be much different to all other models. It's a marketing strategy that's all to extract more cash from customers. It's not pure gold. The 7 jet phone has rather been through some pretty standard buffing and shining processes instead of being blasted with beads to give a satin finish seen on the other 7 phones.

I have to say I agree with this way of thinking. Apple know people are going to jump all over the flashy new shiny iPhone and by making it only available in higher storage options, theres much more money to be made as the jump in prices for more storage is nearly all profit for Apple, an extra 64GB costs them next to nothing!

So a 128 gb model does cost much more than a 32 gb model. The jet black is more expensive.

It isn't more expensive than the equivalent model in the other colours. But it is more expensive for someone who would only get a 32GB phone but wants the Jet Black so much they get a 128GB phone instead, two ways of looking at it.
It's only going to be an issue for people who really like the colour but don't need a lot of storage, which lets face it, is probably going to be a lot of people! Luckily I always go for the middle storage option so I can't say I'm too bothered.

It's Called a Social Filter why does a BMW M5 cost most than a regular 5 Series ?

Also I have coined the the Phrase "Floss the Gloss" people will buy it for the sole purpose of flaunting it. For the Same reason people keep pristine white sneakers in the box and only wear them if they are pristine white new to show them off or flaunt.

Apple has also done this before on the iPod Mini there was a Black Option which was 8GB vs the other models were only 4GB. If you had that Black Version in High school pantys were dropped for you and guy wanted to beat you up for it.

    Life is about Social Filters.

So only Rich people will ruin their Glossy fragile Jet Black models

Hmm... I think smacrumon may be right, capacity is irrelevant.
Other color base models = 649
The "base" Jet Black = 749

But really, it's more about if you focus on the capacity or just the colours themselves.

I find it funny you have such an issue with the new colour that you feel the need to post your little phrase that you seem to be so proud of in every thread that has any mention of it. If you don't like the idea of a glossy/shiny iPhone then don't buy one! Theres plenty of other options available. You're behaving in a very child like manner and its actually quite embarrasing.

They just want to make more money off of it. They know people will buy it since it's a new color so they don't offer the cheapest option of 32gb

Jet Black being exclusive to 128 & 250GB is done to make people spend more money. That is the only reason. I don't know why anyone would want that fingerprint magnet anyways. Prone to scratches and fingerprints, no thanks!

Whilst it's probably marketing, I'd also wonder what Apple's production capacity is for the jet black? By limiting it to 128/256 they minimise the volume they need to produce, as a base 32 is the most common model (I think)

But say you want a jet black 32 gb, it's a big no, you need to bump up to the next price ticket to get it.

You want silver you can pay as little as $649, you want Jet Black you must pay at least $749. The entry point is more expensive.

It's rather sly marketing. Now don't get me started about whether this is iPhone 7 or iPhone 6 series 3.
