    Hey,

Do you know if Apple still replaces jet black iPhone 7 under warranty with the same jet black model or do they give you another colour considering the jet black is no longer in production for a long time now?

My college sent his phone back to Apple due to microphone not working and they acknowledged the replacement request. He's just worried about the jet black colour.

Also have you heard of any incident when Apple replaced an iPhone under warranty with a newer model? Like 7 to 8.

I'm guessing at some point they run out of stock, what happens then?

They keep them in stock until they go vintage and are no longer replaceable. When I worked at Apple at the time of the iPhone 7, you could still get new 4/4S and 3GS for a short while.

You get the colour you sent it, they don’t make them for retail sale but they still have some for replacement purposes. They take the colour pretty seriously

Apple still had stock of original iPhones for replacement purposes up until about 2013 or so.

I replaced an iPhone 5 two years ago and got back exactly what I gave them

On some models the Apple store may have to have the replacement shipped to store as not every Apple store will have the stock. But Apple, the company itself does.

He got a replacement jet black 7.

The phone was stuck at the Apple logo right at the store. They tried to get it to boot with resetting, plugging it in to a MacBook with no luck.

iTunes was detecting it, the home "button" clicked but didn't get past the logo.

When we were arranging another replacement process (another 5 days) the phone suddenly booted.
The guy was resetting it a few times to make sure it works and my college took the phone home only to see it's not booting again.

He tried DFU restore multiple times also, no luck. The phone is going back to the store tomorrow.

    Pretty tough luck.

Would be interesting to see what Apples next official move would be at this point.
