Hello everyone,

I updated my Macbook Pro mid 2015 model with JetDrive 850 as it is advertised to be Nvme PCIe x4 capable drive.

But I only see speeds equivalent to Apple SSD which is around 1,300 MB/s Write and and an improved read of 1,6000 MB/s on blackmagic tests. Apple SSD was poor for read 1,200MB/s

But I am not sure why it was advertised NVme, PCIe x4 with such low speeds?

Below are my details, its listed under NVMExpress section in the Hardware section:
Capacity: 480.1 GB (480,103,981,056 bytes)
TRIM Support: Yes
Model: TS480GJDM850
Revision: R0615
Link Width: x4
Link Speed: 8.0 GT/s
Detachable Drive: No
BSD Name: disk0
Partition Map Type: GPT (GUID Partition Table)
Removable Media: No

Did you bother checking the specs of the Jetdrive before splashing out money on it?

Max read speed: 1600MB/s
Max write speed: 1400MB/s

Seems to be working fine and according to spec.

Thanks, I wanted to play safe, instead of trying Samsung + adapter solution :)
This works fine, just had more extra storage space store to 512 GB. Battery usage seems fine ..
No issues till now

Should have read the speeds :) Reading it NVMe PCIe x4 jumped around it

PCIe 4 lanes means nothing on its own. The combination of PCIe 3.0 and 4 lanes gives the fastest performance. This drive is underwhelming in that respect, performing no better than a PCIe 2.0 x4 drive.

I have a 1TB Version of this drive in my 2015 15". During daily usage you won’t notice the speed diffence - but you will notice the extra space.

The only downside to this Drive is the slightly slower boot performance. (But I didn’t reinstall the OS, I cloned it from the original SSD - that might be a contributing factor.)

Trim works fine too.

Unfortunately from 2016 onwards there will be no more storage upgrade since Apple soldered the ssd on the board.
