I'll probably go see it. It cannot be any worse than that that Appocalypse comedy movie or RIPD.

But then again, I am not a fanboy that worships Jobs or Woz.

If it has mixed reviews then chances are the snobs and fanboys hated it but regular people liked it.

just returned from cinema - that was really ugly... kutcher cant play, he is not an actor... it all looked like half amateur movie, really bad, hope that official movie (Sorkins one) will be much better, steve deserves something more than this piece of ....

The atmosphere showed in this movie is completely different than the one depicted in Water Isaacson's biography. ****ing hip hop music, people trying to be hip and funny, and an actor who did not even bother to studies Steve Jobs's mannerisms.

You wanted to honor Steve Jobs, but you ended up defecating on his grave. **** you, Ashton Kutcher.

2 words: EPIC FAIL :D

from the very first moment you posted a picture of Kutcher as jobs and the fatty as Woz, i knew that it would be a huge failure

but Macrumors kept advertising about this krap like if you got paid for that...

25% on Rotten Tomatoes ISN'T mixed, it's darn right LOUSY (and rotten)!!!

----------

Actually Steve was just the face of Apple. It was a combination of Steve's strict quality guidelines, Woz's engineering talents and Ives simplistic designs that made apple what it is today.

Also all those engineers and programers helped... And don't forget Cook's supply-line wizardry. Steve always admitted that it was a tram effort.

Not until 1999.

He was a lot more than just "Apple" before then.

Ironic that this movie doesn't even include his most Apple-centric decade.

Where is the NeXT and Pixar stuff that dominated his attention during much of the 1980s and 1990s?

I take it you didn't even see the movie, considering there's a whole scene about NeXT, as well as talk of it after the fact.

I don't think it was amazing by any means, but it's clear the majority of the people here didn't even see it. My biggest complaint was how heavy handed it was at times. In one scene, an older Steve is listening to a Walkman on the Apple campus and when he can't get it stop playing, he says something along the lines of "complete garbage." At the end of the scene he dumps the whole thing into a trash can as he walks by. Things like that made me think "reallyyyy?" That and the writer apparently got his hands on a list of every quote Steve is known for saying.

I liked that they didn't shy away from portraying him as the complete jerk and control freak he was, and how that severed his relationships with Woz & Co.

I work in a movie theater restaurant (Studio Movie Grill for those of you who live in Dallas Texas) and I just got done with my morning shift. The two showings of 'Jobs' had less than 12 people in it. Hopefully when I go back for the evening/night shift there will be more guests. Doubtful, though. The movie itself looks okay, but that's it. I'll probably see it before it leaves theaters (which by the look of things, in about 2-3 weeks).

Ah...tasteful, mature, sensitive, and classy posts.:)

Too bad, I was aiming for crass and tasteless.

I walked away from the film very frustrated at how the Apple board and Scully were at Apple back in the 1980's. They really hurt the investors even though they thought they were doing the right thing at the time.

Remember, it's a movie. Apple was pretty screwed up at the time but it's way easier to paint heroes and villains than shades of gray. Steve JOBS (I guess it has to be all caps now) was a party to screwing up Apple before he was shown the door in '85. The remarkable thing is how much he learned about business and discipline during his wilderness years. I don't know how the movie treats this transformation but to me this is the key to his entire story. Put it this way, had Steve remained at Apple after '85 he might well have run it into the ground just as his successors did. Possibly for very different reasons, but just the same, I don't think Apple would have survived the '80s Steve.

It's a poorly made film that belongs on the Hallmark channel or CBS TV Movie of the Week. Lousy screenplay, abysmal acting, poorly realized triumph moments, and just clearly made on the cheap. Give me Sorkin's version.

I still preferred Pirates of Silicon Valley, and I'm looking forward to the movie based on the Isaacson biography. Still, Jobs wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting, and Kutcher did a much better job than I was expecting too. The Woz casting wasn't that bad either. I'm more ironic note my trip to the theater to see Jobs was nearly ruined by Microsoft software; the movie started about 15 minutes late because of this:

The New York Times offers a similar opinion of the movie, which it claims has "all the sex appeal of a PowerPoint presentation."

:D :D :D :D :D

Haha the reviews aren't mixed. They're horrendous. Much like the companies output since Jobs passed away.

I have an open afternoon so I went and caught the first showing today.

I'm a huge fan of Pirates of Silicon Valley and I probably watch it (or at least parts) every month or so. It always stays synced to my iPad. I'm also a vintage Apple collector and have studied the history of Apple and Jobs for quite some time.

All that said, the movie was not bad at all. While some of the casting may have seemed questionable, I think almost everyone played their parts well.

The main thing about this movie is that is focuses in a lot of different areas from what PoSV does. There is obviously no involvement from the Microsoft perspective save for one very brief scene. This movie seems more focused on Job's business politics issues more than anything else. Basically, it's not a rehash of Pirates and I think worth checking out.

Put your feelings about Ashton Kutcher aside (he actually did pretty well) and check it out. I think I'd give it 4/5 assuming Pirate's in 5/5. There was definitely a lot left out but there is simply no way to dig into that deeply in a 2 hour movie.

Not sure what all the hate is about...any chance of getting a movie made that covers some history of the industry like this, as long as it's not pure garbage, is a win in my book.

This is something I don't think a lot of people understand...Steve at the helm in the 80's would likely have been even more disastrous than it was. Luckily he did go on to reflect quite a bit and learn a lot throughout NeXT and Pixar.

Just glad Apple was still around by time he was ready :)

Better than expected

I saw it today, and despite its flaws (mainly structural/timeline, imho) it was much better than I expected. Ashton Kutcher did a good job and nailed a lot of Steve's mannerisms.

Anyone that would have played this role would be doomed to getting ripped apart. The Sorkin actor will too.

I went to see "Jobs" today, too -- I liked it. OK, it's not the best movie I've ever seen, but I think for what it was they did just fine. I had no problem with the casting of Ashton Kutcher because I have not seen him in anything else -- either films or television, so I had no preconceived notions about him or mental images of him in other roles. He looked strikingly like the young Steve, and I think he really made an effort to do the best he could with the challenge of portraying an admittedly complex man.

I've got "Pirates of Silicon Valley" (have watched it two or three times in the past -- guess I'll pull it out and have another look now that I've seen the new film) and I've read the Isaacson book -- yes, as someone mentions, there were a few gaps filled in with this film. Even though they undoubtedly took artistic license in a few situations (which would be needed in some instances to create dramatic tension and propel the story forward), I don't think they went OTT. Hee, hee, I also enjoyed the music -- brought some some fond memories!

I went to the 2:00 PM showing at a local theatre; there were probably about 25 of us in the audience, both kids and adults. I imagine that there will be more people at the showings tonight and over the weekend.

Now I'm looking forward to seeing what the film based on Isaacson's book will be like......

I just came back from watching the movie. It was awesome.

Below are my likes and dislikes.

1. It focused on showing how a board of directors can take over a company and then kick you out. This is huge. I have never really seen this before in a movie.

2. Steve Jobs come back was awesome. He was made CEO and then fired the board of directors. How many people have been depromoted in their own company and then asked to become the new CEO. Jobs did not give up and throw in the towel. He founded NEXT computers and Pixar. Pixar was not introduced in the film. The director made an effort to show how this all transpired.

3. This movie was about Jobs not Steve Woz. I agree Woz was the electrical designer but Steve was the captain running the ship. His determination to achieve what he wanted made Apple products what they are today. He pushed his employees which was portrayed in the film.

4. Ashton acting was okay in my opinion. He did give a sense of cockiness when speaking to people. He portrayed Jobs as a business man not as an Engineer. Woz was the engineer in my opinion. Jobs was more of an idea and inspiration man which motivated his employees to work harder. I think what makes the movie hard to understand is Ashton looks young in the movie. Then again Steve Jobs was young in real life when he built Apple. Its hard to give Ashton proper credit in board room meetings when he's talking to his elders. Steve was a cut throat kind of guy which made Ashton look bad. Not giving stock shares to the founding employees was mean. Steve also did not acknowledge his own daughter in the movie. Not sure if this was true but it did show Steve's determination to make Apple a success at the lost of his relationship with his daughter. That was a very interesting part of the movie. It really showed how much determination Steve had to making Apple #1.

In a nut shell the movie did a good job in portraying Jobs success, decline and back to success.

Have you read the walter isaacson biography. If not you definitely should. This movie did not portray the real Jobs.

The movie had some good scenes. I liked when the project leader of the Mac group came back from break and interrupted Steve when he motivating the team. Steve went off on him. One of the best scenes in the movie.

Honestly, the movie was not THAT bad. It's just another take on the history of Apple and Steve Jobs. Just as POSV was. I read what Woz said and a few of the other original Apple crew. It's not complete, it's not 100% accurate. It's a movie. It never will be. There are some great moments and some not so great moments. I really hated that FB movie. I'm not really expecting to like the other Jobs movie when it comes out.
