Pirates of SV was garbage. Why does everyone like it?

Because it was light and fun. It also btw, represents a range of ages that include my generation. Then again, so did Boogie Nights which I also think was fun.

As for accuracy or well crafted writing - sorry PoSV didn't have that but again was light and as I often described films of that sort - ideal "made for TV movie" genre.

I'll probably watch it, but only to see how terrible it is.

I heard that it was not true. I mean, how can a kid (Woz) create a computer in the 70's (how did he know how to make one, magic?) and another random kid turned it into a multi-billion dollar business. Even Woz said the movie was wildy inaccurate. In the movie, Woz was this intelligent and trusting individual. Jobs would yell at people and just ignore people that he knew when he walks down the hallway. Jobs even took classes and didn't pay tuition and traveled to India. This was before he had money.

If you watch it, realize the entire movie has to be fiction. I was half away expecting Jobs to fly in the middle of the movie since it was so fake.

Ah, well, I'm an historian by training and background. To me, the whole point of anything which claims to be a biography is something approaching accuracy....otherwise, it is simply a creative re-interpretation of the sort that goes by the name of fiction, or historical fiction.

Actually, unlike many others who once dwelt in the groves of academe, I have no quarrel with historical fiction, or, indeed, any other kind of fiction. Just don't try to pass it off as fact, least of all historical fact....

I don't think that moviemakers often explicitly bill their films as accurate portrayals of people and events. But when people hear that a movie is based on a real person's life or they read "based on a true story," they assume a greater degree of accuracy than actually exists.

There's a wide grey zone between truth and fiction, though. For example, some of the events in "Argo" didn't happen as shown, but I thought that it was a very entertaining version of what took place. I felt the same about "The Social Network."

As for the Jobs movie, I expect it to show some events that differ from reality. But I'm more interested in how well Kutcher plays Steve Jobs. The opinions I've read vary widely, but I'll probably see it at some point out of curiosity. I'm expecting more from the Aaron Sorkin movie, though.
