IDG World Expo announced that Steve Jobs will be delivering the keynote speech at MacWorld New York on July 17, 2002.

"We're looking forward to making this summer's Macworld Conference & Expo a fantastic experience for everyone," said Charlie Greco, president and CEO of IDG World Expo. "Steve's keynote is likely to have a few surprises for us all."

Let the rumors commence!

I'm sure we expected Jobs to show up for the keynote, but when the announcement comes with a mention of surprises...

"Steve's keynote is likely to have a few surprises for us all."

that's just begging to keep the rumor mills stoked to a high heat until mid-July :)
And the keynote is just one day after my birthday... I could only hope that he announces free party favors to July birthday boys :D

Apple hardware still too expensive? How about a raffle ticket?

Wont it just, I have a feeling things will be getting very busy around here...allough...it's pretty quiet at the moment.
Anyway, the next month or so should be very interesting.

No ****… I just love this! SJ must be reading these forums…
If he´s not participating?! (1984 revisited.)

Yihah! This thread could grow to become the longest ever…

G5 - PDA - e-book - whatever you like!

Hoping for G5´s though…
(Or a super-sleek, Apple & ?? co-designed stereo/dvd!)

This will be fun!

It's going to be mental..... things went off the scale last MWNY and MWSF 02...... it'll be even worse for MWSF 03 me thinks........

I'm just hoping that people don't come on and whinge and moan about how Apple needs to release this and that to catch up quick or they're doomed minutes after Mr Jobs' keynote has finished........

I though can't wait.... I love watching the live stream...... great fun..... last year for MWSF 01, I was teaching at the time, so I took a machine, set the stream and played it back in an empty classroom....... got quite an audience, and it was even better as they were releasing the PowerBook G4....... :D

As for saying Steve Jobs is going to have surprises for us all, well they're hardly going to say...... "Steve Jobs has absolutely no surprises instore for us at all........ Suck on that" are they??? hardly good promotion!! :p

Wait ´til the guys over the atlantic wakes up and find this thread…
Apple is in a good momentum right now, so this MWNY could
hold real biggies, extras or whatever in store for us!

Better check my savings!

I hope it's a good keynote as I've got good tickets to it. I've never been to MacWorld before so this ought to be great!

does anyone think that the hype we saw for MWSF '02 we be outdone for MWNY '02? If they're already talking about 'surprises' now, well, its going to get even crazier the week before the show.

'way beyond the rumor boards'

I don't think so.... unless Apple start hyping as well like they did with MWSF... and then Time stole there thunder...... although Jobs did make a joke about that........

I hope they will surprise us......... but if we do only get uprated G4's no matter how good they're..... for some it won't be a G5 and as such... is a waste of time... as the G4 isn't this isn't that etc...... :( and as a result they'll have to switch over to the PC and all the usual..... *@!!*

If the releases are inline with what people are predicting, then MWSF 03 will go totally of the scale..... :D

But like I said earlier... I love the MWxx's so I can't wait........ :D :) :)

I don't care what anyone else says, if they can get REAL DDR on a fast bus piping bit's into those AltiVec registers they will soon have my $$$$. I wouldn't even care about a speed bump if the DDR (or something like it) is there. FCP a Dual 1Ghz G4 with DDR would be awesome! (More-so than it already is!)

I couldn't agree more..... although we know that they will be faster than Dual 1Ghz machines........ if they can sort out other issues as well with regards to DDR etc.. then it's all good in my eyes...... (sadly to others..... they'll see it as yet another reason to moan)........ :p

I'm less concerned with the days preceeding the expo, than i am with the days after... dozens of newbies whining about how the G5 wasn't released, and doesn't steve jobs love them anymore, and it's long overdue, and will moterola please do what i tell them?

I look forward to seeing what gets released, but people, don't freak when the G5 still doesn't come out...

:)

I didn't think it was Apple at all saying about 'suprises' but the promoters of MWNY02. And they said, think they'll be a few surprises.

Aren't surprises at Macworld a given? Anyway, I digress....

I am getting pretty excited, hope we get Jaguar soon after - and a release date. Hope for a new iDevice or a new iPod! Can't wait.

Taking the piss out of arn (macrumors god/webmaster) huh? You've got some balls...

The thing is Steve won't have some. Thats the surprise, that none of the rumor sites are expecting. Steve will actually still go by Steve, although he will announce he was going to go by Stella. That is why this bit of late breaking news is always so late to break, IDG really doesn't know if it WILL be Steve doing the keynote.

I was about to say that if the promoter saying that Steve might have surprises sets everyone off, then they all must be insane.

But then I realized something....

Mac User=someone who loves their computer.

Mac User who reads these forums=Fanatic.

Mac User who POSTS=Ultra-fanatic or Mac-hater.

So...insanity will happen.

Although really, the whole thing wasn't that much of an announcement by IDG. Does anyone know if Steve hasn't given a keynote at a Macworld expo in the US since his return to Apple?

The only reason I see about this being announced each year is that it makes sure that everyone knows that Jobs retains the option to NOT keynote, and that it pushes the notion of Expo's occurance yet one more time under the nose of those who would read perhaps that one article only, allowing them to make plans to attend. Some people don't have the time until the last minute, and they don't really keep track of the exact dates.

Also, last expo, Jobs changed the keynote date.

i hope

Just to start off, I do not want a PDA, I am 14, and I would have about as much usage for a PDA as I would a Wintel Computer. I hope to see an iPod with a large color screen, larger HD, cheaper, and have the ability to play MPEGs in Quicktime format or whatever, and maybe even a smaller case(just to be selfish). I would also like to see a case redesign. I have had my 5GB iPod for 5 months and it looks like 5 decades. I love the iPod with all of my heart, but to really push the line and be ahead of everyone else like with the new iMac, all of these features would need to be put together by Jon Ive in the most creative way possible.

here is an idea

Here is an idea. Don't laugh I did this in Appleworks for Gods sake

Not a bad attempt swahilibill, especially seeing as you used Appleworks!

I don't own an iPod, but will get one when the new models come out - whenever that is (hopefully soon).

I would love to see a colour screen with images and stuff, but feel that is will comprimise the battery life. Can't wait to see what apple does.

Good point, and not something I've thought of. (Of course, with my schedule, I have to plan two months ahead for a weekend out of town, but thats because I'm insane. :) )
