Dude, open your eyes! John Lennon is an artist of our time because the themes that informed his music are, sadly, as relevant today as they were when he was alive. In a world ravaged by war and corruption, as ours most assuredly is, how can anyone with half a brain think that John Lennon's message isn't relevant to our time?

Lennon spewed a lot of socialist, pseudo-utopian garbage. Very typical baby boomer, he had his head firmly planed in his ass and you see that come out when he gets political in his music. Not all of it is like that but when he does, it's just nauseating.

A little bit sad that nobody here knows about the Instant Karma/Make Some Noise project. Yoko On in fact donated the rights to John Lennon's entire solo catalogue to Amnesty International a few years back.

This summer a CD was released with covers by U2, REM, Green Day and others- also on the iTunes store in various different versions around the world. It's worth downloading at least some of the tracks; the album on the whole is a bit patchy but then covers albums usually are! The big name bands generally stick to karaoke-like efforts but there are a couple of beautiful re-interpretations of some of Lennon's most well known work (Regina Spektor's Real Love being a personal highlight). And the money goes to an extremely good cause instead of the usual record company pockets!

Don't get too excited about the Lennon catalog on iTunes. It is missing some important Lennon albums. Where is Double Fantasy, Shaved Fish, Milk and Honey?

iTunes is always incomplete!

Shaved Fish is worth getting, and is preferable to Legend as it avoids the later dross he churned out, but I would not call either of the others important. There are better things to spend money on.

At first, I disliked lot of the songs on that album, but they grew on me. I'd now say I like all of them, minus a few, and even those are decent
