Join Verizon Now and Pre Order?

I was wondering if I went and bought two cheap phones, no subsidy, for Verizon and go ahead and become a customer will they let me Pre Order on the 3rd.

I know, I know, wait a week. But I will be out of town on vacation that week.

According to Verizon, existing customers get to pre-order. Not sure how that could possibly be misunderstood. If you join now, the date pre-orders are accepted for existing customers is the date you would be able to buy.

What I am thinking is buy two clean ESN phones off craigslist. Sign up for Verizon service without a contract, since they did not subsidize a phone. That means you would be automatically eligible for the upgrade on the 3rd right?

Seems like it would work, but perhaps you would be better off asking Verizon just to be sure.
