As you may know or will know in a few second, if you are planning on joining the iPhone Upgrade Program and are with T-Mobile, you will need to go in-stores to join. There was a variety of information out there and I wasn't sure what to expect so I prepared as much as I could, only to realize that it was easier than planned. I had a pickup pre-order, so the account below will mention that, but if you aren't picking up, omit those parts.
What You Need
So the agent I had was an experienced guy who's been working launches for years, so he knew his way around. I had gone ahead and placed a pre-order for store-pickup so I was sure to explain everything before the process began so the Apple guy knew what my plan was.
He first had to (what I am guessing) is process the pick up order, then return it since I had already paid for it. He logged into this T-Mobile site to add the device's IMEI, etc. so that's where you will need your phone number and the last four digits of the primary account holder's SSN. He will do this twice (the first time is for your pickup order, the second time is to sign up for the iUP).
After that, on his iOS device, he will get the iUP process started, have you swipe through the contract and go over basically what you will be charged today, and what you will charged monthly; you will need to submit personal information for the credit check (income, your entire social security number, date of birth). You'll cross your fingers that the loan will get approved, and a green check mark appears congratulating you on your loan approval.
After a few bits of personal information like your address and email address, you pay today's portion of the bill and happily walk out with your new iPhone.
Obviously if you're on Verizon, ATT, or Sprint - you can just do this online. Once you're in, you can now upgrade online / through the app.
Hope this helps 🙂
What You Need
- You need to either be an authorized user or a primary account holder. If you are neither of those things, you will need either one present.
- The last four digits of the primary's SSN
- Your entire SSN
- Form of ID. [Apple suggests two forms of ID and YMMV if your billing address of the carrier bill and your DL's address is different. I changed mine online the night before in preparation.]
