Surely, Apple will include material from sources other than in-house, just as Netflix and others do. It makes no sense to have a service with only dozens of shows available. I’m expecting a broad service with documentaries, dramas, children’s stuff and much more. Count me in if they get the pricing right. Count me both shocked and disappointed if they don’t![/QUOTE]

I hope you’re right!

That said, I’ve passed the point of being able to be shocked by Apple services — I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re so wrapped up in their own bubble that they think throwing together a few exclusive shows with fancy-sounding celebrities is enough for preordained success.

Really? So a reboot of Amazing Stories with Steven Spielberg producing doesn't appeal? Or See, a futuristic, post-apocalyptic drama? For All Mankind imagines the space race if the Soviets made it to the moon first? Servant, produced by M. Night Shamalan, no interest there either? How about Prehistoric Planet, imagining the earth in the final days of the dinosaurs?

Checking out the list of shows thought to be in production, which include thrillers, sci fi, action, comedy, lots of things that are so obviously not simply PG as the trolls keep claiming, there really isn't anything that appeals to you? Hey, everyone to their own tastes, but that's a whole variety of shows to find "really boring."

My biggest question is how many of these can possibly be completed in time for the expected fall launch of Apple TV +? I make films and television for a living and it takes a long time to get anything from concept to delivery (many, many months if not years) and I don't see how Apple can possible have more than a half dozen things ready in the timeline given. Would Apple really launch a streaming service for $9.99/month with so little programming, especially given the streaming service competition out there? I feel there is a big piece of the puzzle missing here. Hopefully we will know in a few days.

I looked over the list and there were a couple of shows like Foundation that sound interesting. I hope Apple well but, personally, I'd like to see more hard Sci-Fi in the mix. $10 a month might be too much for me. I might give it a try, though.

I imagine they're throwing bags of money at these celebs to get them on their platform. doesn't really make sense to stray from the big 3 (flix, Hulu, prime) unless they're overpaying.

I really like the strategy of Apple+ but I fear they're missing the mark on creative. I'm just not super hyped on any of the stuff I've seen previews for. I believe their strategy to be something like: "there's no point in trying to replicate Netflix exactly. You don't beat them by doing the same thing. We need a unique selling proposition. How are we different? Well, people in our demographic watch about 5-7 shows at a time, so rather than getting a huge back-catalogue of OK shows people have already seen let's just make about a dozen shows of the best TV possible". I'm super into this line of thinking.

Between Disney's amazing IP for younger folks and Netflix having a VERY dodgy record for good originals, I think Apple is situated well with their "more like HBO" model (in quality. Not language, violence, etc.). That being said, that strategy relies on dazzling previews and really cranking up the public's excitement. That hasn't happened. I also think they're overestimating the "sophistication" (in the classical sense) of the general public. Show us the fun.

Well, you'd all be laughing if I had enough skill with Photoshop to remove Levitt's hair and put Liddy's bald head and mustache on Levitt's face. Dammit! Where's @AngerDanger when you need him.
Mate, who needs Photoshop when you've got Russian spyware FaceApp?

I need to feel a connection. Most of the programming announced so far seems rather vanilla. I might watch something for free, it’s a difficult sell at this point. I want to love this but Disney has my attention right now. It’s going to be difficult to many to think beyond this falls Disney service.

A manchild doing a show about a manchild trying not to be seen as a manchild. Don’t know if I’d watch it, but I like JGL.

He was great as Tommy on 3RFS. And really good in most if his oles afterward. Even “Don Jon” was actually entertaining but it was a bad career choice that killed his early 2010s momentum.

No, the world doesn’t need more children’s films. More stuff for “grown ups” would be welcome, though.
Everything “family” seems too adult focused these days. They may market to kids, but then you watch it and realize it was a sham.

So you are left with mature content and true mindless kid content, with little in between. Netflix programming has this problem big time. I have to watch Y7 with my kids and my wife and I get about 1 hour a night to watch something else.

If Apple+ can make entertainment a family could watch together with everyone entertained - like there used to be on network TV- I might give it a try. It might not be for single 20 something adults with no kids, but for families, it might stop the fragmentation and isolation.

Like just about every other Apple offering this sounds terrible. The only Apple produced content I’ve got any interest in whatsoever is For All Mankind. Outside of that their content ranges from some “meh” to a lot of “that looks terrible”.

I feel line one of his most underrated movies is “Premium Rush”, which is basically high speed chases through a city but on a bike. It’s pretty badass.

Just watched it. Very entertaining, a nice change from the usual car-chase films. Thanks for the rec!
