JPG and PDF issue with Preview

I'm having some problems trying to open SOME jpg and pdf files with Preview. When I open some of them, they show almost all black or white, with most of the parts missing. If I import the jpg to iPhoto I get the same picture. Fortunately it happens only with a few files, but all those open flawlessly on a PC.
I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8
