Is there anyway that I can set different media players for different file formats? Like make VLC the default for .avi, Windows Media Player the default for .wmv, and Quicktime the default for .mpg?

Find an example of each file format and do a Get Info on the file.
Go to 'Open With' and tell it which app you want it to open with and click on 'Change All' to make that default for that format.
